Introduction

The EOS C50 is a hybrid Cinema EOS camera offering 7K 60p internal RAW video recording and 32 megapixel still photos.

This is the step-up model from the EOS R5 C which was released in 2022 and it sits below the EOS C70.

It is the smallest and lightest Cinema EOS camera to date, weighing in at 670g, about 10g lighter than the EOS R5 C. It measures 142 x 88 x 95mm.

The C50 utilises a brand new 7K / 32 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor paired with an advanced DIGIC DV 7 processor.

It supports internal RAW video recording at up to 7K 60P, high frame rate recording at up to 4K 120P / 2K 180P, oversampled 4K/60p and detailed 32MP high-resolution photos.

The EOS C50 is the first Cinema EOS camera to offer open gate recording for multiple formats, capturing the full width and height of the sensor using the new Full Frame 3:2 sensor mode.

Using the Simultaneous Crop Recording function, a full-angle 4K image and a cropped 2K vertical or square version can be captured at the same time to each memory card.

It provides Dual Base ISO support (ISO 800/6400) and up to 15+ stops of dynamic range.

40fps burst shooting and pre-continuous shooting are available when using the C50's electronic shutter with continuous auto-focus and auto-exposure.

There is no mechanical shutter, IBIS or electronic viewfinder on this model.

Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology offers high-speed, high-accuracy subject detection and tracking.

Other key features include a built-in fan, dual photo/video menu system, horizontal and vertical menu support, tilting 180-degree screen, multiple recording buttons, and 14 custom buttons with around 100 functions.

The C50 has a new detachable handle unit features two full-size 3-pin XLR audio terminals and control dials plus a REC button and zoom rocker.

In addition to XLR inputs, the camera features a MIC terminal, Timecode terminal, HDMI OUT (Type-A) and USB (Type-C), plus dual CFexpress and SD card slots.

It employs the LP-6P battery and the BG-R20 battery grip from the EOS R5 II.

The C50 uses the native RF mount and is compatible with EF/PL lenses via the optional Canon PL-RF and EF-EOS R mount adapters.

The Canon EOS C50 is available in black priced at £3299.99 / €3899.99 / $3899 body only in the UK, Europe and the USA respectively. It is made in Japan.
