Bruce Willis's daughter Rumer undergoes 'terrifying' preventive genetic tests amid dad's dementia battle

Bruce Willis's daughter Rumer Willis is being proactive about her health amid her father's dementia battle.

The 38-year-old actress is the eldest daughter of Bruce, 71, and ex-wife Demi Moore, 63. They also share Scout, 35, and the recently married Tallulah, 32.

Rumer has partnered with Function and undergone an ApoE genetic test to understand her chances of developing Alzheimer's in the wake of the Die Hard star's frontotemporal dementia (FTD) diagnosis.

'It’s terrifying to get answers sometimes,' she told People magazine. 'Obviously there are genetic things in my family. Not just dementia, I’ve had some family members who have had breast cancer and family members who have had different things.'

She added: 'But I think when you have information, it’s power. And that sounds so, like, Spider-Man, but when we’re able to see, OK, maybe I’m more predisposed to this, you can just start actively working to reduce inflammation in your body, work on heart health, whatever it is.'

It comes three years after Bruce's family announced his diagnosis. 

In a video featured on Function's Instagram account on Monday, Rumer reflected: 'I really miss my dad. I miss a different version of who he was.

'There are some days that are just so hard. I try to prioritize being present with where he's at now. The truth is, to be strong is learning to deal with both things at the same time.'

Speaking out her test results, she revealed they came back 'pretty average.'

'It just means there is some risk, but it's not crazy,' she explained, adding that the company, which offers more than 100 advanced lab tests, has empowered her with the information.

The mom of one told People: 'I think health is one of those things that we take for granted until we don’t have it. 

'And I think that if you are taking small steps right now to be proactive about it, you might not have to have such a steep fall off the cliff as you get older.'

Rumer shares three-year-old daughter Louetta with ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas.

Earlier this month, in a post marking his birthday, Moore shared a photo of her ex-husband with their granddaughter. 

Bruce's family revealed in 2022 that the actor had been diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that causes a person to lose communication skills.

By February 2023, his loved ones confirmed it progressed into FTD – a degenerative brain disease that impacts speech, behavior and cognitive function.

The actor's wife, Emma Heming Willis, 50, detailed the life-altering experience of going from spouse to caretaker in her book, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, published in September 2025.

The couple share daughters Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12.
