Horrifying full extent of Perez Hilton's disfigurement after knife livestream revealed: As family friends share tragic real reason he can't see his kids... new crisis engulfs star

For Perez Hilton, the most painful part of his grueling ongoing recovery may be the prolonged separation from his three children that he's being forced to endure.

Hilton, 48, is desperate to reunite with his young kids, who insiders say he has only been able to speak to over the phone since his August 4 hospitalization.

The celebrity blogger is covered with medical gauze across his entire body after having dozens of self-inflicted cuts stitched up by doctors.

Hilton (real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr) also has limited mobility and suffered multiple broken bones after taking to TikTok to record a shocking livestream that saw him naked, covered in blood and repeatedly harming himself with a large butcher's knife. Followers watched the horrifying live footage for about 15 minutes before the social media site stopped the feed. Police arrived soon after.

Hilton was hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act, which allows for the temporary and involuntary detention of individuals in mental crisis. He has not since had access to his phone or the Internet.

His wounds have been healing in the weeks since. But, according to a source close to the family, Hilton is still too disfigured for the kids to visit him.

'The cuts are bad. Still a lot of bandages. Wounds. They're on his face and neck and arms. They're everywhere,' a family friend who has known Hilton for 20 years told the Daily Mail.

Hilton's three children – Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, eight – were in his Miami home when the violent episode began.

It's unclear what the children may have seen before they were rushed outside by his sister Barbara, who was also home, but the family is uninterested in causing them any further potential distress, the friend said.

'We don't need to traumatize them all over again.'

Last week, a Miami judge granted Hilton visitation rights from the hospital while his mother Teresita maintains temporary custody of his children.

The children are technically allowed to visit him, but the visits must be supervised by either an approved family member or a therapist.

The Daily Mail revealed last week that Hilton is also required to gain 'psychiatric clearance' from a mental health professional prior to any visitation.

And over the weekend, Hilton was not granted that clearance, according to the close family friend, who also said that could change in the next few days.

In particular, Hilton's family are hoping the wounds to his face, arms and neck heal up before any visits happen.

'He's still covered with cuts that are healing, stitches are dissolving and he's still got some on his face. We're hoping they can heal a bit more this week before he sees the kids,' the family friend said.

A second source close to Hilton said that, in the meantime, the children are well cared for by their grandmother.

While the kids appear to be the main cause of Hilton's impatience while locked in the hospital, the Daily Mail has also been told that his medical bills are quickly piling up.

'Poor Perez has been spending so much money on the hospital and doctors, it has really added up and it's a nightmare for him,' the second source, a Las Vegas-based friend of Hilton's, said.

Before the livestream incident, it is understood that Hilton had been struggling to find lucrative work and that reality show pitches to production companies had not survived past initial stages.

Traffic to his Hollywood news website, his largest source of revenue, had initially spiked after the livestream incident, but soon cratered with no new content being posted online, according to a source close to the family.

Last week, Hilton's small team began again to post stories online, breaking news and celebrity gossip, but it is too soon yet to tell if the site's Internet traffic will fully recover.

That could leave Hilton increasingly reliant on other sources of income.

Another insider suggested Hilton could look to capitalize on his own breakdown in order to provide for his family.

'He can always do a big paid interview when he gets out of the hospital. It would be great if he could still make money to help his family,' the insider said.

Another option, the source added, would be to liquidate some of his largest assets.

'Perez's Las Vegas home has been on the market for months already and has not sold,' the source told the Daily Mail.

Hilton's sprawling, 7,000sq ft home is located on Olive Creek Court within the exclusive Prado community in Sin City.

The desert mansion has been listed for a staggering $4.25 million and has not seen a price reduction since the listing was posted in June by Kathryn Winterton with Las Vegas Sotheby's International Realty.

'Everyone would love for this house to sell,' the source said.
