Now, speaking with Collider, Gillett confirms that filming on The Mummy 4 is expected to begin in August. The director also reveals that the film will go into prep in May.
With principal photography still a number of months away, it will be some time before audiences get a first look at Fraser and Weisz back in character. Though Fraser returned for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), Weisz's hiatus from the franchise is even longer, having not played Evie since 2001's The Mummy Returns.
Evie, of course, did technically appear in Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, but the character was played instead by Maria Bello. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett recently confirmed that their upcoming Mummy movie won't be treating this critically panned 2008 outing as canon.
No story information has been revealed about The Mummy 4 just yet, and it's also not clear whether other franchise veterans like John Hannah and Oded Fehr will be returning as Jonathan and Ardeth Bay, respectively. Both actors, however, have previously expressed a willingness to return.
The upcoming installment in the long-running adventure fantasy franchise will follow the release of Lee Cronin's The Mummy on April 17, 2026. This Blumhouse reboot is expected to be entirely separate from the Fraser films, with a greater focus on horror.
For Fraser, his return as Rick follows a career resurgence in recent years. After winning an Oscar for his performance in The Whale (2022), Fraser went on to appear in Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), Brothers (2024), and last year's acclaimed Rental Family.
Weisz, on the other hand, has been a little less active in the world of movies of late, with her most recent feature film being 2021's Black Widow. Weisz has remained active on TV, however, appearing in Dead Ringers in 2023 and Vladimir this year.
A first trailer for The Mummy 4 likely won't arrive until some point in 2027, but it's possible that promotional imagery will be revealed this year to commemorate the start of filming. In any case, after a few franchise misfires and a long time away, a first look at Rick and Evie's triumphant return may now not be far off.
