The Mummy 4 is about to begin filming.

In the long-awaited sequel, Brendan Fraser is reprising his iconic role of Rick O'Connell that he previously played in The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Rachel Weisz is also back as Evelyn Carnahan, who was last seen in The Mummy Returns. Other returning cast members include John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan, Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay, and Kevin J. O'Connor as Beni Gabor, while Obsession breakout star Michael Johnston and Young Sherlock's Numan Acar join the franchise in undisclosed roles.

While speaking with Canal Plus, Fraser has now revealed that The Mummy 4 will begin filming on Monday, September 7. He shared that "I have to be at work on Monday morning" and explained how he will be "careful" and "completely comfortable" communicating with the stunt team. He praised their professionalism, appreciation for all the enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming sequel, and emphasized how he feels as though he is "see[ing] an old friend again."

Production is beginning approximately 13 months ahead of October 15, 2027, which is when The Mummy 4 is slated to be released in theaters. This release date was moved up after the sequel was previously scheduled for May 19, 2028.

No plot details have been officially confirmed yet, although there is speculation that Johnston will be playing Alex O'Connell, Rick and Evelyn's son who appears in The Mummy Returns and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The character was played by Freddie Boath in the former sequel and Luke Ford in the latter one.

The Mummy 4 comes after a significant hiatus for the series. The first movie was released in 1999, followed by the second in 2001, and the third in 2008. The two initial films starring Fraser and Weisz remain widely celebrated, while Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was considered more of a disappointment. By bringing back many key members of the original cast, the next installment looks to recapture the franchise's early success.
