Brandon Sanderson is one of the most prolific modern authors around, balancing several different projects at once across just about every medium you can think of. His iconic Stormlight Archive is more alive than ever, with the recent announcement of his beloved co-authored duology getting an official eBook version, Hoid's Storybook Collection in ongoing development, an Apple TV series in the works, and five more books planned to complete the saga.

Further, after the success of the new tabletop RPG set in Sanderson's Stormlight and Mistborn universes, it's clear that his work is ripe for gaming adaptations as well. And luckily, gamers have a lot to look forward to considering the recent announcement of Stormlight: War for Roshar, which just got a massive surprise update with official details for its Fall 2026 release (via Brotherwise Games).

Earlier this week, Brotherwise Games dropped a surprise update on the upcoming Stormlight: War for Roshar strategy game set in Brandon Sanderson's iconic fantasy universe. While a previous teaser for the tabletop board game was revealed earlier this month, official details are up now, including a new link to the preview for the Kickstarter campaign, which is set to go live later this year.

The press release includes exciting new details on gameplay itself, laid out as follows:

War for Roshar is an epic board game that plays one-on-one, three-vs-one, or in teams of two over eight rounds, each punctuated by a raging Highstorm or Everstorm. During your turn, you’ll fight on multiple fronts. Upgrade your leaders, deploy units, play Stormlight-powered action cards, win neutral nations to your side, and fight to control territory.

The goal of War for Roshar is "to claim strategic Oathgates while you work to score secondary objectives every round." There will be "multiple paths to victory" that will allow for various strategies and playstyles, "but all require careful management of your heroes and armies in a rapidly evolving warscape."

Further, according to Brotherwise CEO Chris O'Neal, War for Roshar aims to "capture the scale of action in the books perfectly," and is not just a game for Stormlight fans, but for all gamers who enjoy strategy-based war games in general. As with most of Brotherwise's projects, War for Roshar will be completely crowdfunded, with the Kickstarter campaign set to go live this Fall and a specific launch date announcement coming very soon.

Details on the Kickstarter campaign were also shared, with specific tiers mentioned in the release including the standard base game, Champions mini-expansion, and deluxe components as well. Further, gamers can expect new "Cosmere miniature packs" as add-on bonuses, with Stormlight and Mistborn Premium Miniatures planned as part of the Kickstarter campaign.
