James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere universe has quickly become one of the best-selling and most significant fantasy series in the world, drawing in millions of fans who pick up every new release. Within that, there are several individual series that make up the wider lore the author has created, of which The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn are the most significant.
The latter is more limited in length, but it remains one of the most universally popular among fans, often acting as a more accessible entry point into the universe as a whole. Now, another release tied to Mistborn is on the way, and it could easily become one of the most exciting and interactive experiences of the bunch.
In case you missed it, The Cosmere Roleplaying Game has been going strong for a little while, initially starting by adapting Stormlight to a TTRPG format. Up next, the developer has confirmed that Mistbornwill be the next part of the franchise to be included in the game, and it's easy to see why.
In sharing a little about what fans can expect, the official website preview for the release said the following:
"The story of Mistborn begins in the Final Empire, a society on the brink of collapse. Humanity toils in service to the Lord Ruler, his favored nobles, and the fanatical Steel Ministry. As the world of Scadrial faces a final cataclysm, the servants of Ruin and Preservation will decide its people’s fate.
"Centuries after the fall of the Final Empire, an age of peace comes to an end. The second era of Scadrial brings new frontiers and new wonders, from railways and automobiles to airships and skyscrapers. But upheaval looms as the servants of a new god vie for control of the world.
"Mistborn Era One offers a dark fantasy world of heists, horror, rebellion, and ballroom intrigue. Era Two adds pulp adventure, detective stories, secret societies, and gunslinging action. In both eras, heroes face personal battles while defending the world from the influence of nefarious gods.
"Magic in the world of Scadrial is tied to metals. Mistborn “burn” vials of metal to activate extraordinary Allomantic powers. Feruchemists store traits in metal, accepting temporary weakness to gain strength when they need it most. Twinborn master two abilities, proving that skill matters more than raw power. "
The really interesting thing about the new release is that, even if you're already playing the Stormlight portion of the RPG, it should be a very different proposition when Mistborn drops. The developer will inevitably have to introduce new systems, given how the novels deal with magic, and we can certainly expect new classes, abilities, and approaches to gameplay.

In even better news, you won't have to wait too long to get your hands on all the Mistborn world guides and handbooks, with a full release expected in Fall 2026. Beyond that, the developer has also laid out their major plans for a system where players can travel between worlds in the course of one game, though that isn't expected until 2028.
