There was a time when Sony needed Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe to make Spider-Man relevant again, but the tables have turned. Struggling desperately after a poor Phase Four, the MCU is turning to the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day to get back on track and generate buzz ahead of Avengers: Doomsday this December. The once-infallible film franchise has certainly lost some of its sheen, with Dune: Part Three not only refusing to chicken out of a December clash with Doomsday, but monopolizing all the IMAX screens. For Doomsday to work, the MCU needs Brand New Day to match, if not exceed, the cultural impact of 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. The good news is that audiences are still hugely invested in the character, as can be seen from the impact that the record-breaking Brand New Day trailer had on the three most recent Spider-Man films on streaming.
