Adam has been writing in the entertainment news space for over a decade. Beginning his career of covering film and TV at CinemaBlend, he has also appeared on The Flash Podcast and done several radio spots.

Two of the main Guardians of the Galaxy actors are set to reunite outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Parasite’s Bong Joon Ho will be directing them.

For nearly a decade, Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista played Rocket and Drax, respectively, in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and various other MCU projects. Following their time together in the MCU, these actors are now among the vocal talents attached to Academy Award-winner Bong’s upcoming animated movie.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista are among the actors added to the cast of Bong’s upcoming animated movie Ally. The cast includes fellow established names like Ayo Edebiri, Finn Wolfhard, Rachel House, and Werner Herzog, as well as newcomer Alex Jayne Go. Bong is reportedly aiming to complete the project in the first half of 2027 and release it in theaters later that same year.

Taking place in the South Pacific, Ally follows a curious pig squid “as she journeys from the ocean’s uncharted depths to its surface after a mysterious aircraft sinks into her habitat.” It’s speculated, but not confirmed, that Go is voicing the movie’s title protagonist. None of the other actors’ roles has been disclosed either.

Ally will be Bong’s follow-up to 2025’s Mickey 17, which was an adaptation of the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton and starred Robert Pattinson, Naomie Ackie, and Steven Yeun. The forthcoming animated movie has been set up at Neon, which previously collaborated with Bong on 2019’s Parasite. Coincidentally, 2019 is also when he started developing Ally. The filmmaker’s other American film credits include Snowpiercer and Okja.

Neither Cooper nor Bautista is a stranger to voice acting. Along with vocally portraying Rocket in the MCU, Cooper also voiced the imaginary friend Ice in the Ryan Reynolds-led 2024 movie IF. Bautista voiced The Parakeet King in the English dub of 2023’s The Boy and the Heron (which also starred Pattinson), and he’ll next be heard as Tagah in this year's Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.

As two of the Guardians of the Galaxy’s key members in the MCU, Rocket and Drax also appeared together in Disney+’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. The three Guardians of the Galaxy movies and the accompanying Holiday Special were all written and directed by James Gunn.

Though Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s ending introduced a new incarnation of the superhero team led by Rocket, it hasn’t been announced yet when its lineup will return to the MCU. Nevertheless, Cooper reprising Rocket in the franchise is at least possible.

Bautista, on the other hand, made his final appearance as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The character decided to stay on Knowhere to help Nebula raise the children rescued from The High Evolutionary. So though Cooper and Bautista’s time together in the MCU is over, at least they can work together again through Ally.
