Warning: The following contains spoilers for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 18!!

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #18 not only sets the stage for the best confrontation since the beginning of part two with team 7 having to fight the Divine Trees, Matsuri and Ryu, but also teases that this battle might be necessary to take Boruto’s character development one step further. Although Boruto has a complete shift in character after the time skip due to his new status as a renegade due to Omnipotence, the battle against the Divine Trees isn’t an easy one to win. Hence, Boruto needs to become stronger than before.

One recurrent theme in Naruto is the impact of sacrificing for others and how overcoming loss helps gain strength and determination, so Boruto TBV’s story might choose to go the same path, highlighting that Boruto needs to lose something to develop himself. This way, Boruto TBV's latest character hints that Team 7's failed plan could bring a tragedy set up by Kashin Koji to develop Boruto and prepare him for what's to come.

The Divine Trees Might Kill a Member of Team 7

Boruto Needs to Experience Loss To Become Stronger

In Boruto TBV chapter #18, Shikamaru’s plan of betraying the Divine Trees backfired on Team 7, who now have to fight Ryu and Matsuri. This means that Kashin Koji withheld information regarding the possibility of the plan failing, as he previously said to Boruto that it was low. Moreover, the fact that he requested Team 7 for the mission and purposely stopped Boruto from assisting them could be a strategy to help in his development.

The members of Team 7 are Boruto's closest friends and are clearly at risk when fighting the Divine Trees, since even after all his training, Boruto was barely able to win against Hidari with Sarada’s help. Furthermore, Konohamaru’s possibilities of stopping Matsuri by himself are low given that she easily defeated Gaara and Shinki before.

Boruto Is About to Kill One of Its Main Characters: Here Is What We Know

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex's new chapter hints that one of the core characters might perish in battle soon.

Boruto lost his identity, his parents were trapped inside Kawaki’s dimension, and his mentor Sasuke was turned into a tree, but all these trials aren’t irreversible, and he can recover them once he defeats the Divine Trees and fights his fated rival. This way, since Boruto hadn’t experienced a permanent personal tragedy like Naruto when he lost Jiraiya, the story might be teasing that one of his friends might die in the battle against the Divine Trees, which could trigger him and give him the determination to control his karma and become stronger.

Kashin Koji Might Be Following the Same Path as Jiraiya in Naruto

Kashin Koji Could Be Testing Boruto’s Capability to Act as a Singularity of Fate

Additionally, Kashin Koji’s secrecy may prove that he expected this failed mission to test if Boruto would intervene and if he is capable of making the right choices that will lead to the best outcome, since he said in chapter #16 that, as a singularity of fate, their role is to aid paths to good futures from the shadows. Also, as Kojii is ultimately a clone of Jiraiya, he could share the same destiny as him of guiding the Child of the Prophecy, who would either be the savior of the world or destroy it, depending on how he taught them.

Jiraiya received a prediction by the Great Toad Sage that he will guide the Child of the Prophecy who will determine the fate of the world in Naruto chapter #376.

Furthermore, as the focus of the Divine Trees is finding Boruto's ally, this could be teasing Koji's future sacrifice once his role as a guide is over, just like Jiraiya with Naruto. Either way, Boruto is sure to intervene to try to save his friends, and one of his artifacts that Mitsuki found confirms that, so fans should look forward to how he will keep growing in the next chapters.
