Bob Odenkirk has been around as an actor and writer for over 20 years now, but it wasn’t until he played Saul Goodman for the first time in Breaking Bad that he truly arrived as a star. Odenkirk was such a fan-favorite in the series that AMC wasted no time greenlighting a full spin-off based around his character, Better Call Saul, which ran for six seasons before wrapping up with a satisfying conclusion in 2022. Odenkirk recently got his John Wick on in a pair of action movies, Nobody and Nobody 2, which were met with a strong reception from both critics and audiences. Although he’s now in his 60s, he’s made it clear that he isn’t interested in stepping away from the action genre, but rather interested in charging headfirst into it.

Odenkirk’s new action feature has been titled Normal, and it co-stars Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. Headey is famous for playing Cersei in all eight seasons of the HBO sensation, Game of Thrones. Magnolia Pictures has officially announced that Normal will premiere exclusively in theaters on April 17, and to celebrate the film being less than two months away, the studio also released the first teaser trailer, which can be found below. Magnolia also debuted the official synopsis for Normal, which is set in a small Midwestern American town:

“For Sheriff Ulysses (Odenkirk), his provisional posting to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, a dark secret is inadvertently exposed, and Ulysses soon discovers that the town is anything but its namesake.”

Bob Odenkirk’s ‘Normal’ Is a John Wick Crossover

If you’ve watched the Normal trailer and have a John Wick-esque feeling creeping up your spine, that’s by design. Derek Kolstad, who wrote the script for the first three John Wick movies starring Keanu Reeves, penned the screenplay for Normal. Odenkirk also earned a writing credit for his work, contributing to the script and story. Ben Wheatley, who famously directed Jason Statham’s blockbuster action sequel, Meg 2: The Trench, directed Normal. The film comes in with a concise runtime of only 90 minutes.
