A devout player—who goes by Battosai in-game, UrbanCityman on PSN, and Noahman90 on Reddit—who was basically the ‘Let me solo her’ folk hero of Bloodborne, has retired their Blades of Mercy and helped others fell the Orphan of Kos in jolly cooperation for the last time due to the playerbase being so barren 11 years later. It’s tremendously sad to see, even if Bloodborne’s dwindling playerbase is only natural after more than a decade, and many fans are saluting Battosai’s efforts while still hoping and praying to see anything new for Bloodborne in the future.
User Super_Harsh extends their gratitude for Battosai’s “thousands of kills,” writing: “Players like you are part of why these games are so enduring and beloved.” Hopeful, user AssistSpare5860 states, “We’ll meet again when the remake comes out… one day.”
Fans are lamenting this news as it heralds the end of Bloodborne co-op functionality in every meaningful way, seeing how it is unlikely that the game will ever see a staggering number of players summoning and waiting to be summoned again. Unless some astonishing and unprecedented Bloodborne news arrives, even the most stalwart of fans may have no reason to ring Bloodborne’s Beckoning Bell.
User Noahman90 decided to stop paying for PSN because they weren’t being summoned anymore: “The only reason I paid for it period was for Bloodborne multiplayer and I just can’t justify it anymore.” This demonstrates how poor the co-op Bloodborne playerbase must truly be in 2026, as Battosai had managed to hold out for this long before finally deciding to quit.
Ironically, Elden Ring and Elden Ring: Nightreign aren’t balms, as they are completely different games with distinct approaches to FromSoftware’s traditional Soulslike subgenre (Elden Ring featuring an open world, and Elden Ring: Nightreign being more of a boss-rush roguelite than anything else). Only time will tell if rumors of a FromSoftware pirate Soulslike turn out to be true, though it’s a sad day for Bloodborne fans nonetheless.
