It's been a long time coming, but at last, Bleach is ready to bring itself full circle. The hit Shōnen Jump series has been dominating TV ever since its anime returned from a long hiatus. Now, the time has come for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War to come to an end. The hit anime comeback will release its final season this summer, and a new report reveals Bleach will kickstart season four sooner than fans expected.
The news comes straight from Variety as Viz and Fathom Entertainment confirmed plans to release Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity ahead of schedule. Rather than wait until July, the pair will bring the first few episodes of Bleach's final season to theaters in late June. So if you want to see how the series finale kicks off, you will need to get your tickets ASAP.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Will Hit Theaters Before TV
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity will be released across the U.S. as a limited theatrical special. The anime will be on the big screen from June 25–29. Of course, both subtitled and English-dubbed versions of the anime special will be shown in theaters. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity will also bring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage to theaters including a video interview with Tite Kubo, the creator of Bleach, alongside chief series director Tomohisa Taguchi and series director Hikaru Murata.
“Anime fans are in for a thrilling experience as Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War wraps up its groundbreaking run on the big screen,” Ray Nutt, chief executive officer at Fathom Entertainment, shared in a new statement regarding Bleach's upcoming release.
“Fathom has pioneered the theatrical experience for compelling, non-traditional content with built-in fanbases, and Bleach fans are in for a treat with the first three episodes and exclusive, behind-the-scenes content from our friends at Viz Media beginning June 25.”
Bleach's Series Finale Is A Long Time Coming
For longtime fans of Bleach, the final season of Thousand-Year Blood War marks a rather bittersweet moment. Kubo first brought Bleach to life as a manga, but Ichigo became a household name once the series hit television. The original Bleach anime went live in 2004 under Studio Pierrot, and it quickly rose to fame. During the height of Bleach's run, it was touted as one of anime's Big Three titles alongside One Piece and Naruto, cementing Kubo's place in history. But by 2012, Bleach had stalled as its anime was brought to a controversial close.
It would take 10 years for Bleach to return to television after its sudden ending. The original TV anime never managed to adapt Kubo's final manga arc as it was ongoing when the show was axed. In March 2020, reports confirmed Studio Pierrot was returning to Bleach with a full comeback, and the result gave us Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. The series has been a hit since season one launched in October 2022. And this June, U.S. audiences will get the chance to preview Bleach's final season before it goes live on streaming in July 2026.
