Blair Underwood Joins Cast of Fox’s ‘Doc’ For Season 3

Blair Underwood is scrubbing in on Fox’s “Doc.” The hit drama, which just landed a Season 3 renewal, is celebrating that news by adding Underwood to the cast as a series regular.

“Doc” viewers will first see Underwood as a guest star in the Season 2 “Doc” finale, which airs April 14. That will segue into a full-time presence as Dr. Ben Grant the following season.

Here’s the character description of Underwood’s Dr. Grant, who appears to be on a collision course with lead character Dr. Amy Larsen, played by series star Molly Parker: “Dr. Ben Grant is a world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon with an ego that somehow outpaces even his resume. A once-in-a-generation talent with the swagger to match, he doesn’t just save lives — he owns the OR. Impossibly magnetic and even more confident, he’s never not been the smartest person in the room… until he meets Dr. Amy Larsen. Almost instantly, their approaches clash, egos collide, and sparks fly like Westside has never seen. Together, their brilliance is unmatched —as long as they can survive each other.”

Underwood joins a cast that, besides Parker, in Season 2 included Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, Patrick Walker, Charlotte Fountain-Jardim and Felicity Huffman, with recurring guest star Scott Wolf.

The show, from Sony Pictures TV and Fox Entertainment and based on the Italian drama “Doc – Nelle tue mani,” centers on Parker’s Dr. Amy Larsen, who continues to rebuild her life after a car crash erased eight years of her memory. Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg are co-showrunners and executive producers; Erwin Stoff, Russell Fine, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Carol Barbee and David Foster are also EPs.

Underwood’s recent TV credits include a guest spot as a murderous tennis coach on “Elsbeth,” as well as “Three Women,” “Smothered,” “Impeachment: American Crime Story,” “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker” (which earned him an NAACP Image Award), “Dear White People” and “When They See Us.” His regular TV work has also included “Quantico,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “The Event” and “L.A. Law.”

In film, Underwood’s current credits include “Youngblood” and the upcoming “One Spoon of Chocolate” and “Don’t Ever Wonder.” Other recent entries: “Longlegs,” “Origin” and “Viral,” which he also directed and produced in addition to starring. Past films include “Deep Impact,” “Set It Off,” “Rules of Engagement,” “Just Cause,” “Madea’s Family Reunion” and “Full Frontal.” He has also executive produced and narrated the documentary features, “Mr. SOUL!” and “Olympic Pride, American Prejudice.”

Underwood won an Emmy for the Saturday morning series “Give” and has won eight NAACP Image Awards and a Grammy as co-narrator of Al Gore’s audiobook “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Underwood is repped by CAA, Thruline, Wallman PR and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan.
