Black Panther III is officially happening—and it has a release date of December 15, 2028. Kevin Feige announced Ryan Coogler will return to direct the final installment in the Black Panther trilogy during Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel. It will follow T’Challa’s son, who will take over the mantle of Black Panther. David Jonsson (The Long Walk) will play the new Black Panther.
Coogler had previously stated that he was working on the film and it was in early development, but there had been no official confirmation until now. Marvel also debuted a new logo for the film, which you can see below.

As Coogler took the stage, he brought Avengers: Doomsday co-stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke back to the stage and announced that Black Panther III would be shot on, what appeared to be, a piece of 70mm IMAX film. He didn’t specify but, after shooting Sinners in the format, we think that was the implication. Then, Coogler dropped the big news.
“The last time we were together [and] we got to make a movie, we introduced a character who was the son of the character, played by the great Chadwick Boseman,” Coogler said at Comic-Con. “Our T’Challa in that film. And today I want to tell you guys in this next film, he grows up, comes of age, and we have to find an incredible actor… I want you guys to give a warm welcome to our new Black Panther, David Jonsson.”
“Thank you so much,” Jonsson said. “Thank you, Ryan. Thank you, Kevin. Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege of blessing to join. I actually don’t want to say too much. Because I want to let this screen do the talking. But believe me, the honor is entirely mine.”
Black Panther III starring David Jonsson, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, (and maybe Denzel Washington?) will be out December 18, 2028.
