Frieza has been one of Dragon Ball Super’s most recurring and iconic villains since his return during the Resurrection F movie. Despite first appearing as a vengeful villain defeated by Goku and Vegeta once again, the galactic tyrant set out to become the series’ mightiest threat when his Black Frieza form was introduced.
The franchise seems to be heading towards a final encounter against the genocidal alien, as proven by his direct challenge to the heroes during the controversial Granolah the Survivor saga. This upcoming battle is the perfect opportunity to give Vegeta his deserved vengeance against Frieza, a being who took everything from him and has beaten him several times.
Vegeta Needs To Be The One To Defeat Black Frieza
Vegeta Is Still Waiting For A Chance To Avenge His Race and Planet
After learning the truth behind his home planet’s sudden destruction, Prince Vegeta swore that he would be the one to kill the perpetrator, Frieza, and avenge his family. During his time on Namek, Goku’s rival did his best to put an end to the galactic tyrant to no avail, as he was nowhere near strong enough to defeat him. Later in the story, his son Trunks ends up being the one to kill Frieza, fulfilling Vegeta’s desire but robbing him of the satisfaction. When the emperor was revived in Dragon Ball Super, the prince’s opportunity to kill him was once again taken from him.
In Resurrection 'F', Vegeta gets his chance to humiliate Frieza by completely dominating him in battle. However, before he can deliver the final blow, Frieza destroys Planet Earth, killing everyone, which forces Whis to bring back time to the moments before that act of destruction. Goku intervenes and kills Frieza with a Kamehameha before he can enact his final act of spite, thus robbing Vegeta of his revenge.
Despite being the most afflicted by Frieza’s villainous actions, Vegeta has never been given the option of being the one to end him. He even saw Frieza come back to life for the Tournament of Power, and had to accept it. Worse of all, when the villain reappeared during the Granolah saga, Black Frieza proved to be several times stronger than both Vegeta and Kakarot, humiliating them in their strongest forms. Yet, this new imposing form opens the door for Vegeta to be the one to put a definite stop to Frieza’s reign of terror.
It is time for Vegeta to be the one to kill or incapacitate the galaxy’s biggest evil, without having to be saved by Goku or see another warrior take his glory from him. This would also make sense thematically, as the series spent an entire saga showing how much the prince despises Frieza. After decades of making him wait on the sidelines, Vegeta could finally obtain the closure he had been looking for.
Black Frieza Will Most Likely Be His Final Form
Frieza Returning Time After Time Is Not a Novelty Any Longer
Frieza is without a doubt one of the most iconic villains in the Dragon Ball franchise, with his popularity rivaling that of many heroes. Anything with the cruel galactic Emperor in it is sure to be a hit among fans, who cannot get enough of seeing him fight Goku and his friends again. Nonetheless, bringing Frieza back has become a trend that is rapidly losing its effectiveness. Ever since his return in Resurrection 'F', the tyrant has not stopped appearing in new material.
He was the last fighter recruited by Universe 7 for the Tournament of Power, played a major role in Broly’s movie, and is now hinted to be the final villain of the Dragon Ball Super manga. The series cannot keep including Frieza to raise hype among fans, as it will become stale after a while. His Black form will likely be the last time he will ever be seen in the franchise, meaning it will be Vegeta’s last chance to get revenge on the genocidal tyrant.
The Series Could Finally Prove Vegeta is Goku's Equal
Vegeta Would No Longer Need To Be Saved By Kakarot
For decades, the rivalry between Goku and Vegeta has revolved around proving which of the Saiyans is stronger. While the series often depicts the prince as Kakarot’s only equal, when a new threat is introduced, Vegeta rarely ever gets the opportunity to shine. No matter how close in power Goku and Vegeta are, it seems as if the latter is constantly underutilized during important fights. Black Frieza would be a perfect opportunity to showcase just how powerful anime’s most iconic rival has become.
Instead of relying on Goku or another new character to save the galaxy, Vegeta could rise to the occasion and be the one to defeat Frieza for the last time. He would prove he is not only as powerful as Kakarot but also as much of a hero as his rival. It would be an amazing ending to his story and would bring him the closure that he had desperately waited for since he was a child.
No matter who is tasked with defeating Black Frieza in future chapters of Dragon Ball Super, the inevitable fight with this iconic villain has the potential to be among the best in the franchise. Making Vegeta the main fighter in this epic battle would be an incredible decision, giving one of the series' most important characters the respect he deserves.
Dragon Ball Super is a sequel to the original Dragon Ball series as well as the fan-favorite Dragon Ball Z anime. Dragon Ball Super takes place ten years after Majin Buu is defeated and follows Goku and his friends on all-new adventures. Much like its predecessors, Dragon Ball Super was praised throughout its 131 episodes.
