Ryan O'Rourke is a Senior News Writer at Collider with a specific interest in all things adult animation, video game adaptations, and the work of Mike Flanagan. He is also an experienced baseball writer with over six years of articles between multiple outlets, most notably FanSided's CubbiesCrib. Whether it's taking in a baseball game, a new season of Futurama or Castlevania: Nocturne, or playing the latest From Software title, he is always finding ways to show his fandom. When it comes to gaming and anything that takes inspiration from it, he is deeply opinionated on what's going on. Outside of entertainment, he's a graduate of Eureka College with a Bachelor's in Communication where he honed his craft as a writer. Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.
Silicon Valley and tech start-ups in general have made great subjects for television, whether in more directly comedic series about the cutthroat world of tech bros and venture capitalists, like HBO's Silicon Valley, more dramatic, true-crime settings like Amanda Seyfried's The Dropout, or something else entirely. Now, over ten years after tackling the personal computer revolution through the hit series Halt and Catch Fire, AMC is returning to the well with a modern-day window into the warped bubble of Silicon Valley. Set to air on April 12, The Audacity will be all about the tech bros, billionaires, and other eccentric figures who fancy themselves the "inventors of the future," but who are often just egomaniacs indulging in their delusions of grandeur.
Ahead of the premiere, we're excited to feature the series as part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for upcoming spring television and film titles. We can share a set of three new images that highlight some of the key players within the world of The Audacity, played by The Hangover icon Zach Galifianakis, The Big Bang Theory favorite Simon Helberg, and recent Lilo & Stitch live-action remake star Billy Magnussen. Magnussen is at the center of this story as Duncan Park, a data-mining CEO wielding his industry insight and influence in an attempt to accrue profit and power. He's determined to become a titan of tech, rising over the other bored billionaires and disillusioned teens who have, well, the audacity to try and change the world.
Magnussen's Duncan appears like the stereotypical tech bro in one image, complete with his zip-up vest and the expression of a man who's determined to be a disruptor. Beside him is the stylish Dr. JoAnne Felder, played by Emmy-nominated Barry star Sarah Goldberg, who is also diving headfirst into the world of Silicon Valley. Another shot focuses on Martin Phister (Helberg) testing what appears to be an experimental pair of augmented reality sunglasses, as he tries to operate something only he can see. Easily the star with the least chill, however, is Galifianakis as Carl Bardolph, seen screaming and pointing as if accusing JoAnne of something dire. These little glimpses tease both just how ridiculous these characters are and how much drama they can cause in their pursuits of innovation.
Who Is Behind 'The Audacity'?
Emmy winner Jonathan Glatzer, best known as a writer and producer on Succession and Better Call Saul, created The Audacity for AMC and serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. He's joined by a team of directors, including Lucy Forbes, Dan Sackheim, Dan Longino, and Alex Buono, who each, in order, helm two of the season's eight episodes. Rounding out the starry cast are Lucy Punch as Lili Park-Hoffsteader, Rob Corddry as Tom Ruffage, Meaghan Rath as Anushka Bhattachera-Phister, Paul Adelstein as Dr. Gary Felder, Everett Blunck as Orson Stern, Thailey Roberge as Tess Phister, and Ava Marie Telek as Jamison Park-Hoffsteader. Randall Park will also guest star in Season 1 as Gabe, a so-called "qualm-free CFO of a data mining operation."
The Audacity premieres on AMC and AMC+ at 9 p.m. ET/PT on April 12. Check out our exclusive images in the gallery above and stay tuned here at Collider for more exciting reveals from our spring preview series.
