Billie Eilish is set to make her film acting debut in Sarah Polley‘s film adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s “The Bell Jar.”
Academy Award winner Polley is set to adapt the screenplay and direct the film, her first movie since winning the best adapted screenplay Oscar for “Women Talking” in 2023. [To note, Eilish is a two-time Oscar winner for co-writing the original songs for “Barbie” and “No Time to Die” with her brother Finneas.]
“The Bell Jar” has landed at Focus Features and will be produced by Joy Gorman Wettels (“Little House on the Prairie,” “13 Reasons Why”), Plan B Entertainment, and StudioCanal. Gorman Wettels originated the project through her company Joy Coalition, packaging the project with Eilish and Polley and partnering with Plan B and StudioCanal ahead of Focus boarding.
Eilish made her acting debut in the Prime Video series “Swarm,” co-created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers and starring Dominique Fishback. Eilish delivered a standout performance, which earned her the People’s Choice Award for TV performance of the year and an Independent Spirit Award nod for best supporting performance in a new scripted series. The Grammy winner is building on that filmography this summer by co-directing her concert tour documentary “Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour” with “Avatar” and “Titanic” helmer James Cameron.
Eilish is represented by WME, Sandbox Entertainment and High Rise PR; Polley is represented by WME, GGA and Circle Management; and Gorman Wettels is represented by Nina Shaw at Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang.
The Insneider first reported details of the project with Deadline sharing news of the distribution deal.
