Netflix has announced The Roman as the official title of its Vegas drama series starring Oscar Isaac, along with the addition of three series regulars: Betty Gilpin (GLOW), Alec Baldwin (Kockroach), and David Costabile (Billions).
Gilpin will play Marla Blake, the formidable wife of Isaac’s Bobby Red and a brilliant, highly connected lawyer, who knows how to navigate the town’s darkest corners just as well as her husband.
Alec Baldwin is playing Paul “Primo” Clark, a legendary and flint-eyed business technician, who is the longtime chairman of the organization. He’s a surrogate father figure to Bobby who isn’t afraid to let his protégés fight for his favor.
Costabile plays Bill Saverick. The operator of a rival casino, Saverick is a longtime associate of Bobby’s who often finds himself caught between being a loyal friend and a target of the town’s aggressive business maneuvers.
Created by Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Billions, Super Pumped), who also serve as showrunners and exec produce, The Roman is an hour-long drama set in the high-stakes, sharp-elbowed present-day Las Vegas casino business, which is a modernized but still dangerous version of the legendary city. At the center of which stands Robert “Bobby Red” Redman (Isaac), president of the hottest hotel casino in town, who has to make some long odds moves to try and secure his position and take more ground.
Isaac is exec producing the series alongside Koppelman and Levien, Martin Scorsese and Sikelia Productions, Julie Yorn and Rick Yorn for Expanded Media, Paul Schiff and Beth Schacter. JC Chandor is also exec producing and directing the first two episodes, with Kerry Orent aboard as co-EP. We were first to report on Isaac’s involvement.
A three-time Emmy nominee known for headlining shows like GLOW along with films like The Hunt, Gilpin’s recent credits include Death by Lightning, Hal & Harper, American Primeval, Three Women and Mrs. Davis, to name just a few. Upcoming, she’ll be seen in Netflix’s Office Romance, Ron Howard’s Alone at Dawn, Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning, the second season of FX’s The Lowdown and more. She is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
Known for film classics like Glengarry Glen Ross and The Departed, Baldwin will next be seen starring alongside Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz and Chris Hemsworth in the crime thriller Kockroach from Matt Ross. He is repped by UTA and manager Matt DelPiano.
Known for roles in series like Billions and Breaking Bad, and for films like Lincoln, Costabile has most recently been seen on Chicago Med, Billions and other series. Upcoming, he has projects including the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians at Disney+. He is repped by Verve and Gartner Group Entertainment.
