Bribing people is the best way to make new friends

Dante celebrating a good gift in Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave

Giving gifts in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is a fast, if not always easy, way to increase support levels with potential recruitable allies. Giving the right gift that aligns with the recipient's taste results in a hefty support boost roughly equivalent to inviting that character to a meal they love. However, figuring out what everyone likes isn't always easy, not when some list their likes as "looks of fear" or other such things you normally can't buy in stores.

Below, we break down the best gifts for every character in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.

Update (Oct. 9): We've updated the guide below to include a few more gift items for Goliath, Fabio, and Zarcone and specified who doesn't like Saraminian Sweets (it's Jester and Loretta). We've also adjusted the section about favorite items after extensive testing showed how easily you can wow people with expensive items.

Gift items in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

A list of gifts available at a market in Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave

Gift giving is a weekly activity in Fortune's Weave, so you can only give each character one thing once per week. You'll find a dizzying array of gift items at different market vendors in towns and cities across the world map, though there's also one in Dagsion at the end of the shopping arcade. You can purchase drinks, including coffee and Cervi, from the lowtown tavern, too. Dagsion's shops restock and add new items at the start of each chapter.

Fortune's Weave breaks them into several broad categories:

Fashion
Beauty
Flowers
Cooking
Fermented drinks
Beverages
Coffee
Training
Weapons
Military
Horses
Books
Board games
Vegetables
Crafting
Fishing
Archery

There's a small handful of other categories as well, like agriculture, travel, and "spicy foods," though these have maybe one or two items each in them. You can see what category an item belongs to in the item description, so make sure to read that before handing anything over.

They also come in different rarities. Common gifts have a darker blue-green colored icon. Uncommon ones are a lighter shade with a symbol in the bottom-right corner, and rare ones are lighter still with a little sparkle in the upper-left corner. Some characters only prefer uncommon or rare items regardless of what category they belong to.

Where to find gifts in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

You'll find gifts for sale from market vendors in Dagsion and most towns and cities across Dagda. Some types, like fermented drinks, are pretty common, though others, like weapons and military items, are much harder to track down.

Weapons and martial items: Primarily found in Brezarant south of the desert in places like Breston and Zoste.
Fish items: Fina, Raivo Port, and Alecto.
Fashion items: You can buy Eastern Black Silk in limited quantities from Callianeira Port, but the easiest choices here are Eastern Earrings and Exquisite Rings from the same place. The Arrowhead Gem comes from Breston. You can also get skin balm from Barsk Post Town west of Grand Aragon.
Horse items: Grand Aragon, though the more affordable Dagdan Beard Grass comes from Orens in the east. You can also get a horse-grooming kit from Aguino.
Sweets: Different towns often have different types of pastries, like Honey Pastries in Regia or Fragrant Pastries in Orens. However, once you gain access to Megaira in Saramis, you can buy as many Saraminian Sweets as you can afford. The stock is infinite, and they're a hit with most people who like sweets (Jester and Loretta being two exceptions).
Coffee: Megaira, Dagsion's Lowtown tavern
Books: Mahon Castle Town in the northwest and Mons (west of the Callisto Posthouse) have a good selection of books. However, you can also get a strategy manuscript from Ribeira.
Board games: Port of Pandora. You'll also find a Spirit Board Game in Niiza Port, in the map's far northwest corner, and the Board Game Tactics book, which counts as a board game item.
Beverages: Fodlan Tea comes from the Port of Pandora, and you can get Eastern Tea Leaves from Callianeira Port.
Cooking items. The easiest choice here is garum in all its varieties. You can get that from the tavern in Dagsion and in Alecto. However, cookbooks (scattered throughout Dagda's markets) also work, as does the Outdoor Cooking Set, which you can get from Grand Aragon.
Archery items: You can get a bow repair kit from Zoste and Joint Relief Gloves from Breston, along with Wing Fletching from Ribeira. You'll occasionally find Decorative Arrows in Dagsion later in the game, too.
Paintings and art items: These are more difficult to find. Megaira's market sells a Shield Portrait, and you can buy a Pegasus Panorama from the Mons market. Others, like the flower painting and Portrait of Yu Phas, are occasionally quest rewards.
Vegetables: Regia sells potted vegetables, and you can get Pickled Bulbs from Aguino and Pickled Vegetables from Kassite and Zoste. Zoste is also where you can buy Odd Vegetable Seeds.

Giving gifts in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

A list of gifts in Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave

You'll get one of five reactions to a gift. You can see the amount of support points gained at the top of the screen, and a text banner shows up with the reaction after you give the gift.

They don't like it (no support gain)
They kind of like it (small support gain)
They liked it (moderate support gain)
They really liked it (big support gain)
They really liked it, with two yellow arrows (double points, reserved for favorite items)

In most cases, a character who loves a specific category will like everything in that category, though we have run into a few exceptions. Nydine, for example, loves horse grooming kits, but isn't so great with mane ornaments. There's an in-game reason for that and other such anomalies. She loves orniuses (giant dinosaur-like ostrich mounts). You can use a grooming kit for an ornius, but they have no mane, so naturally, she has no use for mane ornaments.

Everyone also has at least one favorite item that gets you double support points. We haven't found everyone's favorites, as the number of gift items is quite high and many of them are rare and expensive. However, finding the favorite is a bonus, rather than a requirement. Between "really liked" items and meals, you can raise support enough to recruit allies without ever finding their ideal gift. We've also noticed that loved or favorite items tend to be a bit flexible for some characters. Some will love high-end gifts in a category they just tolerate otherwise, like Ninae, who loves Eastern Black Silk, but is just kind of okay with some other fashion items. Others prefer uncommon or rare items regardless of category, and there's also a small handful that love multiple common items, like Lillian and her love for Eastern Earrings and gaudy bangles.

With how expensive buying gifts can be, and how hard it is to find things like training items, make sure to plan ahead and decide who you want that extra support boost for. Use meals at the inn to make up the gap and to raise levels with other characters who aren't receiving gifts. And if you haven't got something the recipient "really likes" one week or even during a whole chapter, it's fine to settle for something they just tolerate. There's plenty of time to raise support before the first act ends, so don't sweat it.

Best gifts for each character in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

We've included at least one gift type or specific item for every character you can give gifts to below. Bertrand is the exception. In Act 1, you can only give him gifts as Cai, and his bio straight-up tells you what he likes (garum). We recommend activating the gift item discount Boon of Salvation as soon as you can to help make gift-giving less expensive.
