The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey gives a hopeful update.

The Last of Us began development at Naughty Dog in 2009 and was released by Sony Computer Entertainment as a video game in 2013. It was created by writer and director Neil Druckmann and focused on the emotional bond between Joel and Ellie as they navigated a world ravaged by a deadly virus that Ellie alone appeared immune to. However, when others found out her secret, Joel stopped at nothing to ensure she was safe.

In an interview with The Guardian, Ramsey revealed plans for The Last of Us season 3, with the focus shifting from Ellie to Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever). According to the actor, Ramsey won't be returning for filming just yet, and they will return as Ellie later in the summer as production continues in Vancouver. When asked what Ramsey had been up to during this brief time off instead of jumping onto set, the actor responded:

"I was getting to a place where I’d done a bit too much and was starting to not enjoy it, a bit, and not feel inspired, and feel a bit resentful of it. I couldn’t do that, for my 11-year-old self. It was their favorite thing in the world. So I took a step away, and now I am really excited to go back and I miss it."

Ramsey spoke of her close bond with The Last of Us co-star Pedro Pascal, who portrayed Joel, and they stated that they're "loosely in touch." Nothing more was revealed regarding the status of their character Ellie after the dramatic season 2 conclusion, as the actor revealed they have yet to even see scripts for season 3. Ellie was last seen being held at gunpoint by Abby before a gunshot is heard, and the scene cuts to black.

The Last of Us season 3 will follow Abby and show her perspective of her three days in Seattle, including some of her backstory, her ties to the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), as well as crossing paths with two important characters. Lev and Yara will be joining season 3 and play a key part of Abby's arc as they both are in a rival faction described as a religious cult named the Seraphites/Scars. Lev will be portrayed by Kyriana Kratter and Yara will be played by Michelle Mao, the characters are both siblings and essential to Abby's story.

Recent set photos and videos show production has kicked off again following a brief pause in filming. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting to see what HBO has in store for The Last of Us and the dangers that await the characters in season 3.
