The Batman: Arkham series will likely go down in history as one of the best superhero game adaptations. It's a little rough around the edges at points, but the initial trilogy is still beloved to this day.

The Batman: Arkham Origins prequel, however, was plagued by issues, especially on PC, that prevented it from reaching the same status. Now, you can grab a remaster from NexusMods that brings the game in line more with how it should have been at launch.

This Batman Arkham Origins Is A Beauty

The City Is Gorgeous

 Arkham Origins.

Titled "Arkham Origins Advanced Graphics," this mod seemingly does it all and revamps the game from a visual standpoint. There's higher resolution batsuit textures, better quality reflections (including up to 4K), better open world post-processing, enhanced snow particles, better shadows, a reworked cape, and a lot more. There's also a new "max" graphical preset that will make the game look like a full-on remaster.

The mod is pretty easy to install, but you will need at least one DLC for it to work properly. It is also compatible with achievements, so if you're keen, you can play Origins for the first time with the aesthetic upgrades and still earn them.

"A great upgrade! The game has become much more beautiful," one user writes in. Another explains how it doesn't completely change how the game looks, and is close to the original vision: "Good mod. Improved graphics, but doesn't change the overall aesthetic, unlike many other mods. I always prefer the artstyle to be preserved."

If you haven't played Origins yet, I can conditionally recommend it. It still has some technical problems, but it also has great moments that highlight Batman's detective work and a few really cool action set pieces. Plus, the Mr. Freeze DLC (Cold, Cold Heart) is a fun but flawed romo featuring the iconic villain.

What's Next For The Batman Games?

It's Time For A Reset

 Arkham Origins (2013)

So what's next with the Arkham series? Well, that's complicated. After 2024's disastrous Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was said to tie into the Arkham-verse, we have no real idea what is going to happen to the series, much less Rocksteady Studios as a whole. Gotham Knights, while not part of the Arkham-verse, didn't set things on fire either.

It's wild to think that WB doesn't really know what to do with Batman at the moment, but that's been said multiple times throughout the franchise's history. A complete revamp would be a good start, with a new combat system and maybe even a silver/golden-age take on the universe.

Either way, we'll be waiting for the next Batman: Arkham game for quite a while. There's nothing announced at the moment, so we'll just have to play the old games until something shakes out.
