LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is lauded for being a celebration of all Batman media, including movies, TV shows, and animation, but it is as highly anticipated as it is due to it unabashedly inheriting the heart and soul of the Batman: Arkham franchise. This game series has unquestionably transcended to become one of the most popular iterations of Batman’s mythology, with even WB Games Montréal’s Batman: Arkham Origins and Camouflaj’s Batman: Arkham Shadow being beloved entries beyond Rocksteady’s seminal trilogy.

On Twitter/X, fans have praised a look at Nightwing gameplay in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which revealed that the game gives him a wingsuit in order to glide. This may seem like a trivial matter, and it will be to anyone who did not bother to play Gotham Knights, but anyone who played the open-world, Bat-Family-themed action-RPG will be relieved to see he is not gliding through the air via the Flying Trapeze glider.

To be fair, Gotham Knights was more or less backed into a corner. Every playable Gotham Knights character could ride the Batcycle, for instance, but they also all have a unique means of traversal: Nightwing’s Flying Trapeze, Batgirl’s Glide, Red Hood’s Mystical Leap, and Robin’s Slideways.

Batgirl essentially being gifted Batman’s grapnel-boosting and cape-gliding from the Batman: Arkham series easily made her traversal the most fluid and fun, and Nightwing’s Heroic Traversal feature is the most disappointing as a result of it not being nearly as interesting as his companions’ abilities.

Nightwing is only one of seven playable LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight characters at launch, including Batman, Batgirl, Robin, Catwoman, Jim Gordon, and (surprisingly) Talia al Ghul. Thankfully, we already have confirmation that all of them will be able to grapple and glide, with Nightwing and Catwoman utilizing wingsuits, for example, and thus, no one character will be singled out with an inferior traversal ability.

It is worth acknowledging that Gordon will have an actual glider, whether it will function similarly to Nightwing’s Gotham Knights glider or not. That said, it is arguably more immersive for a character like Gordon to use a glider than a wingsuit (as user TheBatstan points out), and he will also grapple ungracefully throughout Gotham City in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
