The deal, confirmed on July 26, 2026, caps a roundtrip journey that took Fernández from Barcelona’s youth system to the English Women’s Super League and back again in roughly 18 months.
Fernández originally left Barcelona for Everton on loan in January 2025 before signing a permanent deal with the Merseyside club in the summer of that year. The key detail: Barcelona retained a buy-back clause in the permanent transfer agreement. When Fernández proved her value by starting all 22 Barclays Women’s Super League matches for Everton in the 2025/26 season and scoring two goals, Barcelona exercised that option.
Fernández’s roots at Barcelona run deep. She joined the club from Girona back in 2018, worked her way through the academy, and made her first-team debut during the 2022/23 season. Across her initial stint, she accumulated 29 first-team appearances before departing for England.
The decision to send her out wasn’t a signal of disinterest. It was a calculated bet that competitive minutes in the WSL would accelerate her development faster than rotation appearances at a dominant Barcelona side. That bet paid off.
