If you’ve been missing a good old-fashioned serial killer thriller, fear not (or fear a lot) because soon a slayer like no other will step out from the shadows and leave nothing but chaos in his wake. Channeling favorites like The Silence of the Lambs and Longlegs, filmmaker Gavin Polone is ready to bring something completely different to the genre through his feature-length debut, Psycho Killer. Slated for a release via 20th Century Studios on February 20, the movie is the perfect late Valentine’s Day plan for those who need a little horror in their lives. Today, Collider is thrilled to unveil a sneak peek of the slasher that puts Barbarian’s Georgina Campbell up against a threatening foe when a routine traffic stop turns deadly.
Police officer Jane Archer (Campbell) is doing her duty when she turns her patrol vehicle around and parks behind a fellow officer who has just pulled a black sports car off the road. With her antenna up, Jane phones dispatch from her drivers’ seat and asks for details about an ongoing investigation into a string of interstate homicides. But, before the voice on the other end can get her the information she’s requested, Jane looks on in horror as her fellow officer is pulled into the suspect’s driver-side window and shot. With her gun in hand, Jane jumps out of her car, but it’s too late and the murderer burns rubber while speeding down the highway and back into anonymity.
Throughout Psycho Killer, Jane will struggle with the moment we see play out in the sneak peek as the police officer murdered was not just her co-worker, but also her husband. Now on a quest for vengeance and truth, Jane fully throws herself into uncovering the man responsible for her heartbreak all while ensuring that he doesn’t do the same to someone else. In addition to Campbell, your new psychotic obsession also stars James Preston Rogers (The Blackening), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Grace Dove (The Revenant) and Logan Miller (Escape Room).
Meet the Creative Team Behind ‘Psycho Killer’
When it comes to the brains behind Psycho Killer, the team is made up of some of the best in the genre. The project is penned by Andrew Kevin Walker, who paired with David Fincher for his timeless classic, Se7en, as well as his more recent thriller, The Killer. Additionally, Walker served as the scribe behind other favorites like Joel Schumacher’s 8mm and Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. While this might be Polone’s first full-length directorial project, it’s far from his only work in Hollywood as he has previously produced numerous hits, including Drop Dead Gorgeous, Panic Room and Zombieland.
Check out our exclusive sneak peek at Psycho Killer above and see it in cinemas on February 20.
