Andy Behbakht has worked as an entertainment journalist since 2010, covering all the latest in Hollywood on both the big and small screens, from staying on top of the biggest breaking news, analyzing movies and television shows in Hollywood, to in-depth interviews with actors and storytellers.

Andy's career includes having worked for publications such as FanSided, KSiteTV, TV Fanatic, It's Just Movies, Heroic Hollywood, TV Overmind, and more. Outside of his career as an established reporter, Andy is the host and producer of The Showrunner Whisperer, The Flash Podcast, the editor-in-chief of Multiverse of Color, and the network director of DC TV Podcasts.

One of the most important Marvel Cinematic Universe movies is gearing up for filming.

The brothers confirmed that they are currently finishing work on Avengers: Doomsday, sharing that “We are doing some work still on Doomsday and will be until probably they rip it out of our hands in November and that just means they have to give it to other people, to finish it for a few weeks."

As far as directing future MCU movies after the 2027 installment, they don't have any official plans yet with Marvel Studios, stating that "I will say this. The stories that we’re focused on now are complete. Doomsday and Secret Wars speak with one another as two films and they form a complete expression. Whether or not we all collaborate with Marvel beyond that is certainly a possibility, but right now, the vision, the narrative vision is just for Secret Wars."

The Avengers: Secret Wars cast will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom after he makes his full on-screen debut this summer in Avengers: Doomsday. While Marvel Studios have been very secretive about what characters will show up in the 2027 follow-up, several stars have individually revealed that they are returning for the Phase 6 finale.

In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant's own Liam Crowley, Letitia Wright confirmed Shuri's return ahead of her Avengers: Doomsday appearance. The Black Panther star commented, "That's what I have to film next, Secret Wars. But Doomsday, we finished that, and that was very great."

Even though the Russo brothers may not have any further plans to be involved with the MCU timeline after 2027, it may simply be that they won't work on Avengers films specifically. However, that doesn't mean the duo couldn't come back to work on a Marvel property for a titular character.

They got their start with the Marvel brand by helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which led them to direct Captain America: Civil War. Because of how succesful those movies were, that paved the way for the Russos to tackle Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

While work is underway on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the MCU's next theatrical release will be Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as the British lead will finally reprise the role of Peter Parker this summer. However, as of writing, it is unclear whether the web-crawler will be in either of the ensemble installments.

On the small screen, Disney+ has the highly anticipated VisionQuest TV show coming up in October, which will bring Paul Bettany's iconic character back to the franchise. The MCU alum has also teased that Vision may be in Avengers: Secret Wars, but Marvel Studios has yet to confirm or deny his role in it.

Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to open in theaters on December 17, 2027.
