While Marvel Rivals has previously featured PvE events, like its four-player Halloween-themed Zombie Mode, the upcoming one will be much larger in scale. The game’s creative director, Guangyun Chen (aka, Gaungguang), explained that the mode will take place in the ruins of the Avengers Compound as 50 players face Thanos and his army head-on. Gaungguang implies that the battle will recreate certain iconic moments from the films, such as Thanos’ “I am inevitable” line.
While it seems Thanos won’t be a playable character anytime soon, Rivals has been better about adding villains lately, with its last two new characters being The Hood and Gorr the God Butcher.
What else is coming to Marvel Rivals soon?
The latest Dev Vision video also revealed other content coming to Marvel Rivals in Season 10.5. On Oct. 9, we'll get the Avengers: Infinity War mode. It's a two versus two event where duos draft upgrades for their characters while trying to snatch opposing teams' Infinity Stones, which offer powerful abilities.
In keeping with the season, the game is also getting some Halloween-focused skins on Oct. 15 for Devil Dino, Elsa, Blade, Deadpool, and more alongside the All Hallows Glow event. On Oct. 29, Rivals is getting the Night of Illusions mode, which Gaungguang describes as “a thrilling, suspenseful interactive puzzle experience.” That sounds unlike anything added to the game so far. As for other additions in Season 10.5, the 18 versus 18 Annihilation mode is getting a new map, Alchemax Headquarters.
While there’s undeniably a lot coming to the game, some players were disappointed when NetEase announced last month that Season 10 would only get one new character: Gorr. For the last eight seasons (close to a year and a half), the game received a new hero every month. It was quite a run. While that streak has finally ended, it seems there’s plenty coming to the game this month to make up for it.
