If you’re a ’90s or early 2000s kid, then you know Nickelodeon produced some of the most iconic cartoons of all time, from Avatar: The Last Airbender to Invader Zim, Danny Phantom, SpongeBob SquarePants, and everything in between. Now, one of these legendary series is returning with a brand-new sequel.

Avatar: The Last Airbender fans, this is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill. While the fandom knows that AtLA has its fair share of spinoffs following next-generation characters, the upcoming sequel will focus on a missing chapter from one of the original gang: Kyoshi Warrior Suki!

This new AtLA story kicks off on May 6, 2026, with Dark Horse Comics’ Avatar: The Last Airbender--The Kyoshi Warriors #1, the first issue in a three-part series. Fans can find the official synopsis for the first issue below:

Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors leave their island home to join the war against the Fire Nation. Met with suspicion and resentment by the mainlanders, they struggle to prove their worth to the Earth Kingdom. But when that opportunity arises, will they be willing to compromise their values as Kyoshi Warriors to embrace it?

As previously mentioned, AtLA fans are no strangers to sequels and spinoffs that expand the universe by exploring generations beyond the original gang. These include Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra (2012–2014) TV series, the upcoming The Legend of Korra: Kya and the Secret of the Sand comic series, and novels such as The Rise of Kyoshi and The Dawn of Yangchen.

However, the fact that we are finally getting one of the most wanted “missing chapters” featuring one of the original and most beloved characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender truly stands out. This installment may only be rivaled by the Zuko-centric stories when it comes to filling in key moments from the Avatar saga.
