Team Asobi is releasing a free holiday-themed level for its beloved 3D platformer, Astro Bot, this week. It’s called “Winter Wonder” and it will be available to players who have completed the game on Thursday evening.

The developers didn’t reveal too much about the update, but wrote in a PlayStation blog that players should expect a “fun-filled level with shiny presents, a good dose of jingle bells, and brand-new special bots.” The level was designed for children and adults alike so there won’t be any “hair-pulling” challenges in it.

For years, Team Asobi has worked as Sony’s go-to tech demo developer. The studio created games like Astro’s Playroom, which was released alongside the launch of the PlayStation 5 and served as a tech demo for the console, and Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which demonstrated the PlayStation VR headset.

In the fall of 2025, Team Asobi released Astro Bot, a fully developed standalone 3D platforming game. Astro Bot was highly praised upon release. Polygon’s Oli Welsh described it as a “Nintendo-tier platformer” and it’s nominated in the coveted Game of the Year category at The Game Awards.

A post on the PlayStation blog said the team is releasing the additional level to show appreciation for the warm reception from fans and critics.

“Since releasing Astro Bot earlier this year on PlayStation 5, we have been submerged by lovely comments from you and the PlayStation community, and we are delighted with the critical response to the game all over the world.” Team Asobi studio director Nicolas Doucet said, “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for showing your appreciation. It truly means a lot to us.”
