Ariana Grande Says ‘Holy S—’ in Response to Vogue Cover of Her With 6 Fingers That Appeared to Be AI-Altered

Ariana Grande got a digital enhancement on the latest cover of Vogue Japan.

The “Wicked” star and pop singer is the cover subject of the magazine’s latest issue. But people quickly spotted a problem with the original Vogue Japan cover photo: Ariana is sporting an uncanny six fingers on her left hand.

In response to a fan who posted the Vogue Japan cover image Thursday on Instagram, Grande replied, “holy shit.” She added cheekily in another reply: “oh my goodness how exciting ! i’ve been saying i need some extra appendages so that i can start an album ! thankful for this.”

In the story on Vogue Japan’s website, the photo in question appeared to have been corrected as of Friday with a version of the image of her with five fingers on her left hand.

Variety has reached out to Condé Nast and Vogue Japan for comment.

The image of the six-fingered Grande, on the March 2026 cover of Vogue Japan, went viral in the past few days as fans expressed astonishment at the gaffe.

“The level of AI slopification is so high that Ariana Grande has 6 fingers on the cover of Vogue Japan and NOBODY noticed it before publishing it,” Luiza Jarovsky, co-founder of the AI Tech & Privacy Academy, wrote in a post on X Friday.

For the 2026 Grammy Awards, being held Sunday, Feb. 1, Grande is nominated alongside her “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” co-star Cynthia Erivo in the best pop duo/group performance category for “Defying Gravity” from the first film. The “Wicked” soundtrack also is nominated for best compilation soundtrack for visual media. In addition, Erivo’s “Be Okay” from her 2025 album “I Forgive You” is nominated for best arrangement, instrumental or a cappella.

Grande and Jonathan Bailey are set to star in a revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Sunday in the Park With George” at London’s Barbican Centre. Performances are to begin in the summer of 2027.
