The clock is officially beginning to tick down for Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson today in a release announcement and a batch of first-look images from Apple TV’s upcoming series, Cape Fear. Adams and Wilson’s characters will soon find themselves caught in the crosshairs of a murder case after a convicted killer, played by Javier Bardem, is released from his sentence and hunts them down with vengeance in mind. Not only is the call sheet overflowing with a top-tier trio of powerhouse performers, but the series is also backed by some of the biggest names in showbiz. Created by Nick Antosca, who previously found success through titles like A Friend of the Family, The Act, and Brand New Cherry Flavor, the remake is executive-produced by Antosca, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg.

If the title sounds familiar to you, that’s because you’ve absolutely heard of Cape Fear before. The first time John D. MacDonald’s book The Executioners landed an on-screen adaptation was through J. Lee Thompson’s 1962 film, with Scorsese picking up the reins and bringing it to a new generation all over again in 1991. Seeing space to build upon an already attention-grabbing story, Antosca’s version will give things the episodic touch, which allows the creative team more space to build out the universe. The original story centers around Max Cady (Bardem), a convicted rapist, who finds a way around the criminal justice system and is released from prison. After researching his case, Max discovers that his public defender (Wilson) is the one responsible for his time in the slammer and embarks on a vengeful quest to make both him and his wife (Adams) pay.

Slated for an arrival on Apple TV on June 5 with a two-episode premiere, audiences can expect to catch a new installment of Cape Fear weekly through July 31. In our first look images, we see the three main characters behind the psychological thriller begin to take shape. While Adams looks absolutely terrified in her still, Wilson looks like he’s found a moment of determination and resolution. On the other hand, Bardem is having the night of his life, as his character dons a white suit and flashes a million-dollar smile while holding a microphone to his mouth.

‘Cape Fear’ Has an Academy Award Nominee as Its Director

Between its creator, team of executive producers, and star-studded cast, Cape Fear is shaping up to be yet another winner for the Severance streamer. Additionally, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Passengers) joins as both an executive producer and the pilot’s helmer. Eat The Cat’s Alex Hedlund and Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey also produce.

Check out the first images for Cape Fear above and stream it on Apple TV on June 5.
