Ryan O'Rourke is a Senior News Writer at Collider with a specific interest in all things adult animation, video game adaptations, and the work of Mike Flanagan. He is also an experienced baseball writer with over six years of articles between multiple outlets, most notably FanSided's CubbiesCrib. Whether it's taking in a baseball game, a new season of Futurama or Castlevania: Nocturne, or playing the latest From Software title, he is always finding ways to show his fandom. When it comes to gaming and anything that takes inspiration from it, he is deeply opinionated on what's going on. Outside of entertainment, he's a graduate of Eureka College with a Bachelor's in Communication where he honed his craft as a writer. Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.
The search for the origins of the world's greatest wine is intensifying in this week's episode of Apple TV's international Emmy-winning drama, Drops of God. Collider can exclusively share a new sneak peek from Episode 3 of its sophomore season that finds stars Fleur Geffrier and Tomohisa Yamashita in hot water during a little family gathering. Arriving in the Georgian countryside, they seek to learn more about the making of the area's signature wine directly from the source. In trying to uncover one maker's secrets, though, the duo becomes embroiled in a bitter, decades-long family feud that will test their own bond as they try to work through it.
In the sneak peek, Camille (Geffrier) and Issei (Yamashita) are seated at a table with a Georgian family expressing their love for Georgian wine. Their understanding of it, however, is quite limited. Camille doesn't understand that all of it is made locally by the family matriarch, a veritable genius of wine who may have figured out exactly the secrets that the siblings' legendary father, Alexandre Léger (Stanley Weber), never could before his death. Her methods certainly intrigue Issei, who keeps a close eye on her throughout their conversation. When she finally comes over to the table herself, though, Camille tries to keep their true motive under wraps by weaving a tale about them being on the hunt for some legendary flower. The winemaker is sharp enough to immediately pick up on their lies and assumes they're sent by Davit (Tornike Gogrichiani) to acquire her coveted wine. However, neither of the siblings knows the man, but that may soon change now that they've gotten involved with the family.
The footage serves to illustrate the danger that's to come in Camille and Issei's journey. Drops of God Season 2 begins as a search for legacy, following in the footsteps of their father to crack the secret to the world's greatest wine. So confounding is the mystery, however, that it spans across continents and centuries, through hidden histories and family secrets that have been closely guarded by the few who know the truth. For the two siblings, it's tantamount to a treasure hunt, thrusting them into danger at the very corner of the world and forcing them to confront the darkest sides of themselves. With tensions starting to rise in the latest episode, it remains to be seen what they'll be willing to sacrifice to find the answers, and if their bond will ultimately survive the search.
'Drops of God' Has Been an Unexpected Success for Apple TV
Created by Quoc Dang Tran and produced by Legendary Entertainment, Apple TV's cutthroat multilingual French-Japanese wine drama is based on the New York Times bestselling manga of the same name by Tadashi Agi and illustrated by Shu Okimoto, though it takes some liberties to make the story its own. Season 1 is similar at its core, though, following Camille as she undergoes a test to claim her late father's inheritance of luxurious wines by taking on Issei, Alexandre's protégé, in a gauntlet of wine-related tests. Since its premiere in 2023, the show has been an under-the-radar hit on streaming, pairing its Best Drama International Emmy win with a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2's return in January brought the show soaring back up the charts and even challenging Vince Gilligan's wildly acclaimed Pluribus worldwide. With six episodes remaining, there's still plenty of room to grow for Camille and Issei, too.
Drops of God Season 2, Episode 3 streams on Apple TV on February 4. Check out our exclusive sneak peek in the player above.
