There have been whispers that Taron Egerton will take over the mantle of James Bond, but the former Kingsman star has publicly proclaimed his desire not to take up the role. Egerton made his feature debut as a big-budget movie star in Kingsman: The Secret Service, the 2014 spy thriller directed by Matthew Vaughn, and he returned to the role a few years later in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Over the years, Egerton has also starred in plenty of high-profile action hits like Carry-On. He features opposite Ozark veteran Jason Bateman in Netflix’s hit holiday thriller, which climbed streaming charts until it became one of the platform’s most popular movies of all time. Egerton is also famous for his role as the legendary singer Elton John in 2019’s Rocketman, a film many felt deserved an Oscar nod for his performance.
Although an Academy Award nomination has evaded Egerton to this point in his career, he has received one Emmy nomination. This came because of his performance in Black Bird, the 2022 Apple TV miniseries co-starring Paul Walter Hauser. The show follows Jimmy Keene (Egerton), a man who is convicted to 10 years in prison before he cuts a deal with the FBI in exchange for befriending a dangerous serial killer from the inside. In order to shorten his sentence, he must get the killer, Larry Hall (Hauser) to admit where he hid the bodies of the 18 women he killed. All six episodes of Black Bird are streaming on Apple TV globally, and the show is still in the top 10 years later in several countries around the world. The series was written and created for TV by Dennis Lehane.
What Else Is Streaming on Apple TV Right Now?
The most popular show on Apple TV right now is The Last Thing He Told Me, the thriller series led by Jennifer Garner that just debuted the first episode of its second season. To reach the top spot, The Last Thing He Told Me had to dethrone both Shrinking (Harrison Ford) and Hijack (Idris Elba), which are both in the middle of new seasons. The most popular movie on Apple TV right now is F1, the Brad Pitt-led blockbuster. It briefly lost the top spot to Eternity, the new supernatural rom-com starring Elizabeth Olsen opposite Miles Teller and Callum Turner. Anya Taylor-Joy’s The Gorge has also been in the top 10 for over a year now.
