The movie has knocked Black Phone 2 off its previous reign on top of the streaming platform. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a record-breaking success, both for Taylor-Joy and for video game adaptations in general. As of writing, it's the Guinness World Record holder for highest-grossing movie based on a video game, having earned $1.361 billion at the global box office against a $100 million budget. It's also the second-highest-grossing animated movie ever.

The film's placement on Peacock is a sudden surprise, with the film having moved streaming services as part of an overall deal with Universal and Netflix. It was originally on Peacock from August to December 2023, before moving to Netflix until October 2024. It now remain on Peacock, with no plans to alter its current at-home release location.
