Warning: There are spoilers ahead for The Devil Wears Prada 2.Anne Hathaway breaks down how Andy Sachs' ending in The Devil Wears Prada 2 differs from the original film.

The 2006 movie concludes with Andy quitting Runway, throwing her phone in a fountain, and charting her own path again as a journalist. The Devil Wears Prada 2 ends with Andy still working at Runway with Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Nigel Kipling (Stanley Tucci), and with the trio being a united team.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hathaway explains that she likes how the sequel's ending has Andy continuing to be part of a team, which gives her hope in a chaotic world. Despite how things were in the past, there are now "no stars when it comes to doing the work," as Miranda now sees Andy and Nigel as her equals instead of being their superior. Check out Hathaway's comments below:

At the end of the first film, Andy throws the phone in the fountain and goes her own way. This one, she learns she wants to be on a team. I just think it shows the three of them are stronger together, and that there's obviously the head of the empire, but there are no stars when it comes to doing the work. As a person living in the world right now, trying to make sense of a lot of chaos, I felt like I was relieved and hopeful. Look at them! Those three are still at it! I should stay at it, too.

In the first movie, Andy's arc is largely about becoming independent, embracing her self-worth, and that she is not defined by her boyfriend Nate Cooper (Adrian Grenier) or by Miranda. It's an empowering evolution, but it is focused on the growth of an individual as opposed to the growth of a community.

After 20 years of traveling the world and becoming a respected, award-winning journalist, Andy discovers in the sequel that she wants to be part of a strong community, which she finds through working with Miranda and Nigel again at Runway. While more seismic changes will inevitably upend journalism and fashion industries, the three characters continue to move forward and do their best work, a simple but inspiring message that Hathaway appreciates.

Along with the ending's thematic resonance, it leaves the door open for another sequel. With Andy, Miranda, and Nigel all working together, it is narratively easy to have them take on a new challenge in a potential next installment. This was a challenge that the second film needed to maneuver, given Andy's previous arc and her quitting Runway, but it would be a non-issue this time around.
