Angelina Jolie has been a celebrated actor for a number of years. The movie earned Jolie a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama, and has earned Oscar buzz. In addition to Jolie, Maria features a leading cast including Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Haluk Bilginer, and Casper Phillipson.

Now, Maria has become a Netflix hit. Maria made it to no. 4 on Netflix's Top 10 Movies in the U.S. Today (December 12) list. While it did not quite top the list, Maria saw fairly instant Netflix success, as it just got added to Netflix yesterday, December 11. Its quick place on the Netflix list is probably directly correlated to the recent momentum it received when Jolie's Golden Globe nomination was announced on December 9. Nonetheless, its streaming success is a good sign that Mariacould continue its momentum throughout the awards season, and potentially see Jolie's name appear on the list of Best Actresses when the Oscar nominations are announced in January.
