The Amazing Spider-Man 3 hopes have increased after a new Sony update that could reshape how the Marvel franchise will look. Garfield led two of Sony's live-action Spider-Man movies. While Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland both led trilogies as Peter Parker, Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was canceled, making him the only live-action Spider-Man star not to make it that far.

While his films were somewhat divisive, the actor's return in one of the MCU's best movies, 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, helped prove to audiences that Garfield was always a perfect choice to play both the Peter Parker and Spider-Man sides of the iconic character. Since then, fans have been asking for the actor to lead a new solo movie, and that could happen after a Sony update.

Venom showing his teeth in Sony's Spider-Man Universe

On Matt Belloni's podcast The Town, Tom Rothman, the chairman and CEO of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, claimed that Sony's Spider-Man Universe will be rebooted in the future, describing it as a "fresh reboot" with "new people." The Marvel spinoff franchise was mostly unconnected to the MCU, save for Tom Hardy's Venom quickly popping in and out of that shared universe.

While Hardy's Venom movies were successful, their box office totals diminished from movie to movie. The SSU's other releases, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter, all ended their theatrical runs as box office flops. As such, when Venom: The Last Dance marked the end of Hardy's time as Eddie Brock, the franchise lost its only popular character. Kraven bombing worldwide was the last nail in the coffin.

The biggest problem with Sony's Spider-Man Universe is that, despite its name, the franchise never had its version of the Marvel hero. Tom Holland's Spider-Man has firmly remained in the MCU, never even interacting with Tom Hardy's Venom when the latter made the trip to the Marvel Studios franchise. Fans were vocal about the SSU's lack of Spider-Man, as the focus on villains and small characters was not received well.

Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Would Fit The New SSU

With the new update about an impending reboot to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the situation would be perfect for Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to finally happen. After all, fans have been asking for Garfield to lead a new Spider-Man movie and for the SSU to finally debut its own version of the character. A franchise reboot can do both.

Garfield could appear in Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars, which will soft-reboot the MCU and could, through a deal between Marvel and Sony, also reboot the SSU, making it so that the new version of the franchise is set in The Amazing Spider-Man universe. Since Garfield's Spider-Man movies already match the tone of Tom Hardy's Venom franchise, putting them together would not be a hard task for The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
