One of the great things about Andor is that, in addition to being one of the best TV shows in recent years, it's driving series devotees toward Tony Gilroy’s other work. As for his next project, Gilroy is working on Behemoth!, a music-themed drama starring fellow Star Wars alum Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian). The film is scheduled for a December release from Searchlight Pictures — and while audiences shouldn't expect sci-fantasy adventures from Gilroy and Pascal, Behemoth! looks like a captivating mystery.

The first trailer for Gilroy's new film shows a frantic Pascal racing from one scene to the next as he reunites with his brother (Will Arnett), runs into his ex (Olivia Wilde), and enters a relationship with his colleague (Eva Victor). The film’s high-stress music environment calls to mind recent movies like Whiplash.

“A gifted cellist, Alex Serian (Pedro Pascal), returns home to Los Angeles after 20 years on the road,” the trailer description reads. “Music, which has been the constant, all-consuming river of his life, begins to carry Alex on an adventure that will change him forever.”

Gilroy is directing, writing, and producing. He’s reuniting with many Andor creatives for the project: his brother John Gilroy will edit and produce; Damián García is the cinematographer; Sanne Wohlenberg is also producing; and Brandon Roberts is contributing to the score. The soundtrack will also feature work from eight additional composers, including James Newton Howard (Michael Clayton, The Bourne Legacy) and Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Avengers: Endgame). The movie was first announced in March 2025.

Behemoth! will be Gilroy’s first project since Andor, the outstanding Star Wars spinoff that exceeded all expectations to become one of the best installments in the series. The show delivered compelling political struggles and complex characters across a tight 24-episode run.

However, the series’ success shouldn’t be surprising for those familiar with the rest of Gilroy’s underrated filmography. For instance, Michael Clayton is a similarly dense, tightly written thriller that weaves together politics and high-stakes situations. Gilroy is also known for his work on the Bourne series and for co-writing (and salvaging) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While there may not be much surface-level overlap between Star Wars fans and those interested in a Searchlight drama about classical music, hopefully Gilroy’s previous success will draw at least a few people out of their comfort zones.
