Just like how comic book solicitations spoil story events or character appearances long in advance, neither are comic-related movies and TV shows immune to spoilers when they film in public and have photographs taken on set shared online by passersby. This is particularly true of Daredevil: Born Again, the Disney+ revival series that is somehow miraculously releasing seasons annually.
For instance, while Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is streaming now, Season 3 is in production. We knew that Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Finn Jones’ Iron Fist, and Mike Colter’s Luke Cage will be appearing in the show due to set photos that were taken recently, too, but a photo that none other than Luke Cage’s actor himself took and shared has unmistakably spoiled what fans can expect from the story in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
Luke Cage and Spider-Man Spoil The Ending Of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s first trailer unceremoniously revealed that Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin would somehow be overthrown as the mayor of New York City, as made evident by Sheila Rivera bestowing the key to the city upon Spider-Man. As such, we can fairly reliably guess that Matthew Murdock and Karen Page’s efforts to amass resistance will be successful by the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
However, this does not necessarily mean that Matt will succeed without consequence. Indeed, as per the photo Mike Colter shared, we now know that Matt will be wearing an orange jumpsuit as a prison inmate in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
Season 3 was already rumored to feature Matt and Fisk in prison, with this photo now confirming that Matt will be there long before we were perhaps meant to learn about what the upcoming season’s story would entail. This is a far greater spoiler than learning Kingpin would no longer be the mayor, especially for general audiences who are not familiar with some of the most iconic Daredevil comic books.
Daredevil: Born Again’s Season 3 Comic Inspirations Are Clear As Day
The events resulting in Matt’s incarceration are anyone’s guess. That said, it seems obvious that Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again will be at least partially inspired by Ed Brubaker’s “The Devil in Cell-Block D” storyline and/or Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil run.
Of course, Daredevil: Born Again has only loosely adapted stories and characters from Marvel comic book source material, and its adaptation of these stories may merely cherry-pick what it would like to from each. It would be phenomenal, though, if Danny Rand or Elektra took up the mantle while he is locked up, and maybe his secret identity can be preserved.
If the end of Season 2 has the public learn that Daredevil is Matt Murdock, numerous enormous ripples in the MCU will be carried forward without a secret identity for him to fall back on.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has reached a critical juncture with Vanessa Fisk’s alleged death, and it will be fascinating to see how the story evolves from there with only three episodes left. We do have some pieces to the puzzle laid out in front of us, and we will be waiting until the show puts them together as the story progresses.
Daredevil: Born Again has been living quite comfortably in the shadow of the Netflix series. Season 3, though, finally appears to be a sizable enough departure that it will be highly distinguishable. Only time will tell if it actually achieves that, but Season 2 has proven that it is finally stretching its legs and hitting the strides it was expected to after a season-and-a-half of growing pains.
