Amanda Bynes received a strong reaction online after posting a pair of new handmade purses she is selling for $218 a piece on her New York $peed label.

The 40-year-old actress captioned a shot for a black purse with pink trimming titled goth bagg, 'Play dead • the next bag drop.'

The fashion item drew mixed reactions with one user comparing the aesthetics of the accessory to a trash bag.

'I literally thought somebody was weighing something with a trash bag…,' the user wrote.

Another said that 'the bag has absolutely no structure' and said the purse was 'far from done,' design-wise.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Bynes for further comment on the story.

The What I Like About You star captioned a shot for a black purse with pink trimming titled goth bagg, 'Play dead • the next bag drop'

One user delivered a mixed review, saying that the naming and 'body bag style pvc' illustrated a great concept, but the bag itself was lacking in quality.

Some of the responders argued with the price point, with one user saying they had been 'confused' by the $218 she had been charging for it.

Another said: 'I love Amanda and love that she's being creative with something she's passionate about, but until she upskills the prices need to be lower.

'The quality does not appear to be very good both from seeing loose threads, uneven stitching, lack of lining and reinforcing the bags and actual feedback of people that have bought and received one.'

The user said that the fame of Bynes, who earlier this month shared her thoughts on the passing of Hayden Panettiere, might compel some consumers to purchase the item regardless of perceived flaws.

'I honestly believe people are paying $200+ for the fact it was made by a celebrity,' the user said.

Others praised the bag as 'very beautiful,' 'legit designer quality' and boasting a cool 'rainbow shine.'

The Thousand Oaks, California, native, who graduated from fashion school in 2019, subsequently posted a shot of a second purse for which she is also charging $218.

She calls the pink bag with sparkles 'prince$$ bag,' which also drew a bold reaction from commenters for the quality and price point.

One commenter said: 'Not even signed or a logo on the bag... I support you girl but this ain't it.'

Another remarked: 'You can literally see the nylon threads poking out... Girl the price should match the quality. At least a little bit.'

Others referenced the cost squaring it with a sagging economy, with one person suggesting to Bynes that she would 'get way more sales at $70,' adding, 'You gotta read the room.'

Said another user, 'Love you bb but we can't even afford gas out here lol.'

Another said, '$218 in this economy for such a low quality bag is insane… How can you even justify charging this much.'

One user provided Bynes with constructive criticism, saying that 'those around you have to be more realistic with this process bc people WILL buy your creations Amanda but not at that price.

'Unless you're just trying to service the luxury goods girlies, they ain't buying this Barbie bag.'

Bynes in July said on Instagram that she was 'doing a bag line' and was 'so excited about the whole production of it.

She added: 'I am so excited about my bag line that I am doing new york $peed... we are adding decals; we are using fabrics. It's a whole vibe. So excited I will post more about it, of course. Take care.'
