All Might Is the Symbol of Peace, and My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Will Answer a Big Question About the Pro

3 hours ago 5

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes will see numerous characters from the original series acting in supporting roles, and that, of course, includes All Might. As a prequel series, Vigilantes will feature All Might when he was in a much healthier condition compared to the original series, so while he won’t be a major player, it will still be a far different depiction of him than what most fans are used to.

While All Might won’t be a main character in Vigilantes, that doesn’t mean the series won’t have something to say about him. All Might’s voice actor Kenta Miyake gave some brief commentary about All Might’s role in the series, and based on what he’s said, the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime will answer one of the biggest questions the original My Hero Academia had ever levied at All Might’s character. Granted, said question has already been addressed, but that level of thought is still a big part of why Vigilantes will be such a great anime to watch.

My Hero Academia’s Prequel Answers The Anime’s Biggest All Might Question

What My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Says About All Might

As perfect a hero as My Hero Academia’s All Might often appeared to be, the truth was anything but. Not only did All Might once remorsefully tell Izuku that even he can’t be around to save everyone, but after All Might’s retirement, it became clear that All Might set such an impossible standard that society slowly fell apart without a single person capable of filling his shoes. One of the biggest questions My Hero Academia ever asked was what happens when someone like All Might fails, and it’s a big part of why his character has always been so compelling.

While All Might is plenty active during Vigilantes’ time period, the premise of the series revolves largely around the vigilantes who do things and go places the regular heroes overlook or otherwise don’t have time for, meaning that My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ premise answers the question of what happens to those All Might can’t save by following the characters designed to do just that. Kenta Miyake even acknowledged that as a big part of the story, and overall, it will be great to see how that unfolds in the series proper.

Vigilantes does a great job of addressing what happens when All Might isn’t around, but the original series already did that. After All Might’s retirement, Japan slowly fell into disarray because All Might lacked a proper successor, eventually leading to the chaotic wasteland of season 6, and the ultimate takeaway was that society should have multiple heroes they can put their trust in as opposed to a single person. My Hero Academia’s later seasons revolve largely around showing what happens when All Might can’t be around to save people, and everything it does with that has been great to watch.

That being said, Vigilantes’ take on things still has plenty of merit. While the original series is focused mostly on the consequences of All Might’s inability to save everyone, Vigilantes instead focuses on the problems that existed during All Might’s career that went largely unnoticed by the masses, something the original series never truly got to address. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ take on the dilemma of All Might’s perfection works because of how different it is from what the original series does, and overall, it’s a unique take that adds a lot to the story’s charm.

What Role Does All Might Play In My Hero Academia: Vigilantes?

All Might's Character In Vigilantes Explained

All Might in the trailer for Vigilantes

There’s a lot to say about how Vigilantes relates to All Might’s character, and that begs the question of what All Might’s role in the story is. All Might never has a large role in Vigilantes’ plot, but not only does he still exist as a role model to other characters, most notably My Hero Academia: Vigilantes protagonist Koichi, but he’s continually framed as the biggest deterrent to the villains’ schemes because of how overwhelmingly powerful he is, so overall, All Might’s few appearances in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes all serve to highlight his role as the Symbol of Peace.

All Might in Vigilantes is just as powerful as he was in the first few seasons of the original series, if not more so, so the fact that My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ cast still has to act outside the law when someone like All Might is around emphasizes its central conceit of showing what happens when regular heroes can’t be around to save the day. Everything My Hero Academia: Vigilantes does with the original anime’s themes is part of why it’s such a great anime, and it’s part of why it will be so fun to watch this upcoming spring.
