EXCLUSIVE: Tony and Emmy-nominated Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones) has joined the Season 2 cast of The Institute, MGM+‘s thriller horror series based on the Stephen King novel. Production is underway on the forthcoming season in Halifax.
Allen will play Nolan Reeves, an eccentric European tech billionaire and one of the Institute’s financial backers with an ambitious agenda all his own.
Season 2 picks up following the Season 1 finale, following Luke Ellis (Joe Freeman), Tim Jamieson (Ben Barnes), and their fellow survivors as they work to expose the Institute’s crimes while staying one step ahead of the army of killers on their tail. Meanwhile, the ruthless and calculating Ms. Sigsby (Mary-Louise Parker) pursues her quest for vengeance and a return to power, in the process discovering more about the deep inner workings of the Institute than she ever could have imagined.
In addition to Freeman, Barnes and Parker, Allen joins returning cast members Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Robert Joy, Arlen So, Jeff Fahey and Hannah Galway.
The Institute hails from executive producer King with director and executive producer Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones) and executive producer and writer Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand). MGM+ Studios is the studio. The series will premiere exclusively on MGM+ in the U.S., UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia. Amazon MGM Studios Distribution will distribute in all other international territories.
Best known for playing Theon Greyjoy in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Allen most recently wrapped production on the second season of Netflix’s sci-fi show 3 Body Problem. Recent television credits include the Paramount+ limited series, Girl Taken, the Sky series Atomic, Mark Williams’ thriller series Safe Harbour, and Steven Knight’s BBC Series Rogue Heroes. Film credits include Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, John Wick and The Predator reboot, among others. He’s repped by CAA, The Artists Partnership and Untitled Entertainment.
