Sometimes, no matter how good a show is, there are so many factors at play that it becomes impossible to keep it going. From creative differences to budget constraints to cast members departing, many things can lead to a cancellation, even when a show is doing well structurally and critically. Many scripted shows in Syfy's lineup were cancelled as the platform downsized following a change by its parent company, NBCUniversal. As a result, shows like Chucky, Reginald the Vampire, and Resident Alien were cancelled as the new media entity tried to cut costs.
The Alan Tudyk-led sci-fi dramedy Resident Alien met an untimely end in Season 4, even as the show's fanbase and critical acclaim were growing. With a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Resident Alien received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with multiple seasons achieving the perfect 100% rating. The show ended in August last year, but that doesn't mean viewers are done with it. Streaming data from FlixPatrol reveals continued interest in the series. Resident Alien recently appeared on Apple TV's PVOD service, breaking into the global top ten for an entire week.
Tudyk stars as Harry Vanderspeigle, an alien who crash-lands onto Earth and must pass himself off as a small-town human doctor. Harry arrives with a secret mission but realizes that to carry it out, he must first pass himself off as human. This leads him to become entangled in solving a murder case while trying to understand the various quirks that make humanity complex. Resident Alien was created by Chris Sheridan and also starred Sara Tomko, Meredith Garretson, Alice Wetterlund, Corey Reynolds, Linda Hamilton, and more.

Will There Be 'Resident Alien' Season 5?
No, there won't be a fifth season of Resident Alien. While creating Season 4, Sheridan anticipated it could be the show's last, so they included a proper, albeit untimely, series finale. He also revealed in an interview that there were no plans to shop the show to another platform or streaming service. "That has not been a discussion. … If we weren’t able to tell our story the way we wanted to, that is something I think that we’d want to do. But I think because this season is what it is and, in such a beautiful way, finishes telling the story after four seasons, I think just hopping into a fifth season somewhere else doesn’t feel right for the show," Sheridan said.
Resident Alien is available to stream on Peacock and Netflix in the US. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
