ADG Awards 2025: ‘The Brutalist,’ ‘Dune: Part Two’ Earn Nominations

1 week ago 11

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) has announced the nominees for its 29th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards. Production design is all about worldbuilding, and so it’s fitting that the nominees are spread out by the kinds of worlds production designers are asked to create and the demands of their setting. The feature film nominee categories are amongst period settings, contemporary settings, and fantasy settings and the television shows are divided further by format between single-camera hourlong, half-hour, multicamera series, limited series, and TV movie, among others.

But the nominees themselves align with IndieWire’s predicted frontrunners for the Oscar category. “Dune: Part Two” and “Wicked,” among others, are nominated in the fantasy feature film category, while “The Brutalist,” and “Conclave” each received nominations in period feature and contemporary feature, respectively. On the TV side, “Shōgun” continues its conquest of guild nominations with one for period single-camera series, but “Squid Game,” “The Penguin,” and “What We Do in the Shadows” all earned nominations for their production designers in their respective categories.

“This year’s nominees showcase the incredible artistry and vision that define our craft and our industry. We’re thrilled to bring the Guild together to celebrate the achievements of these incredible Production Designers and their Art Departments,” says award show producers Michael Allen Glover, ADG, and Megan Elizabeth Bell, ADG, in a joint statement.

In addition, the ADG will honor Lisa Frazza, Barbara Mesney, Dan Sweetman, and J. Dennis Washington with Lifetime Achievement awards. Legendary production designer Carl Jules Weyl will be inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame as part of the ceremony. The 2025 Cinematic Imagery Award will be presented to Academy Award-nominated director and filmmaker Jason Reitman, whose body of work includes “Juno,” “Up in the Air” and “Saturday Night.”

The ceremony, hosted by acclaimed actress and comedian Rachael Harris, will take place on February 15, 2025, at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.
