'She was depressed and not fun to be around,' Aaron Rodgers sneered of Danica Patrick before insisting their two-year relationship had offered 'no intimacy.'
But the NFL icon's takedown of his ex-girlfriend was only the opening act in a spectacularly sour stroll down memory lane during an appearance on the Not Just Football podcast this week.
Rodgers, 42, then swung his sights toward Shailene Woodley, the Emmy award-winning actress he proposed to after a whirlwind romance, and unloaded a string of eyebrow-raising claims about why their engagement crashed and burned.
He alleged Woodley, 34, told him she had to 'go f*** another man' soon after he got down on one knee, before eventually ending things because she simply 'didn't want to be with him' anymore.
Rodgers claimed he was merely firing back after both women appeared to criticize him in past interviews - but friends of Woodley say she is 'horrified' by the quarterback's comments.
'It's so unfair of him to talk about her that way, but she is not surprised as he is a loose cannon who mouths off whenever he wants,' one insider told the Daily Mail.

Another insider said the Divergent star was left feeling 'icky' by Rodgers' decision to resurrect their long-dead romance, years after the pair split in 2022.
'For him to bring it up and say what he said, to bring anything up for that matter, has made her feel icky,' the source said. 'She thinks the fact that he said anything is kind of gross; she's not happy with him at all, she finds it all very tawdry.'
The insider added that Woodley sees Rodgers' latest comments as a 'gaslighting mind game' she has no desire to join - particularly given that their romance ended years ago.
It was a relationship that moved at speed. Woodley and Rodgers were first linked in 2020, and their engagement was revealed in 2021 after a whirlwind courtship.
At first, mutual friends believed the pair's eccentricities made them a surprisingly neat fit.
'They are both very much professionally amazing at what they do, but personally they are both very odd,' a source told Daily Mail. 'So, when mutual friends introduced them, it almost seemed appropriate that they got together because they shared the same weirdness.'
Friends initially saw it as an unlikely love story.
'Their friends thought it was actually a match made in heaven,' the source added. 'They found each other and their similarities and differences attracted one another. Until they didn't.'
'For him to bring it up and say what he said, to bring anything up for that matter, has made her feel icky,' the source said
According to the insider, the engagement became something of a band-aid for problems already bubbling beneath the surface.
'[Rodgers] thought that because they got into the relationship fast, that getting engaged was going to save the relationship; it did the complete opposite,' the source said.
By then, the couple were already buckling under the strain, the insider claimed.
'They couldn't handle the cracks of their relationship as they just got on each other's nerves,' the source said. 'It was around Covid, so everything wasn't normal in the first place, so it became his way or the highway, and she didn't know how to handle it.'
The insider's blunt summation of the split was simply: 'It was a bad breakup.'
Woodley appeared to allude to the emotional fallout in a 2024 interview, although she did not name Rodgers.
'I had a really awful, traumatic thing happen in early 2022,' she said at the time. 'I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy.'
She said empathy for 'someone else' had kept her in what she described as a 'toxic situation.'
Rodgers argued on the Not Just Football podcast that former partners Danica Patrick and Shailene Woodley attract attention when they mention his name in interviews. Above, Rodgers with ex Danica Patrick in 2018
'Empathy kind of kept me in this loop of feeling everything for everyone,' Woodley said. 'I knew I was depressed when I looked at a tree and felt nothing.' She called it 'the lowest low of my life.'
Patrick, meanwhile, had also spoken candidly about the impact of her own 2020 split from Rodgers.
Asked in 2025 to name the most painful experience of her life, Patrick said: 'The breakup with Aaron in 2020, because it was sudden. It felt like it was my life.'
She went on to characterize the relationship as 'emotionally abusive,' saying it had 'wore me down to nothing' - while adding that the aftermath ultimately forced her to show up for herself.
Rodgers argued on Not Just Football that both former partners only attract attention when they invoke his name.
'No one cares what they have to say until they say my name,' he said.
He added: 'I dated two women who nobody gives a f*** about unless they drop my name - and they like to say their version of the history of what actually happened. So I'm this monster of a partner.'
But Woodley's friends insist Rodgers has the narrative backwards.
Friends believe Woodley has more pressing reasons to celebrate than revisiting a romance she left behind years ago, after the actress recently won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Paradise at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys
'He said that whenever she says his name she gets clicks, but the truth is whenever he says her name he gets clicks,' one insider told Daily Mail. 'Why is he talking about her now, she wonders. What is he trying to accomplish with these attacks?'
The source suggested Rodgers' bombshell interview may be driven by something simpler: a taste for turbulence.
'It's almost like he needs drama in his life, and he puts himself in these odd situations,' the insider claimed.
Woodley, for her part, is said to be refusing to return fire.
'Shailene wishes him a better future where he can spread kindness and not mean thoughts,' an insider said.

'She just won an Emmy,' the insider said. 'She should be celebrating that, not having to hear from an ex about something so out of nowhere and rude.'
