Few people have given as much to their craft as Stanley Kubrick did to the world of movies. Kubrick is best known for his work directing 2001: A Space Odyssey, but over the years, he’s also directed other iconic epics that have aged beautifully. Another of his most famous works came in 1980 when he teamed up with Jack Nicholson for The Shining, the legendary horror film based on the famous novel by Stephen King that’s still inspiring a generation of horror stories to this day. Kubrick directed 13 movies in total, dating all the way back to the 1950s, but even some of the weaker movies in his filmography have still mostly stood the test of time as modern classics. He tragically passed away in 1999, the same year his last movie was released.

The film that many would argue is Kubrick’s most underrated in his filmography, though his Full Metal Jacket. The 1987 Vietnam War movie features a host of stars, including several who have gone on to become major figures in Hollywood, like Matthew Modine and Vincent D’Onofrio. Full Metal Jacket follows a pragmatic U.S. Marine who experiences a different perspective on the war throughout boot camp and his arrival in Vietnam. The film grossed only $50 million at the box office against a $30 million budget, which would be considered a flop nowadays, but it has certainly earned back this and more over the years with DVD and digital purchases. In fact, it’s still doing so today. Full Metal Jacket is in the Apple TV top 10 and in several countries around the world, and it’s become one of the most popular rentals and purchases.

Full Metal Jacket is not streaming anywhere in America at the time of writing, but the film is available to rent or purchase on VOD platforms like Prime Video or iTunes. However, with it picking up steam and overseas markets, it likely won’t be long before it returns to one of the big streaming services. Full Metal Jacket earned strong scores of 90% from critics and 94% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and the film even picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Be sure to check out Full Metal Jacket on VOD platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV in America, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
