After joining Screen Rant in January 2025, Guy became a Senior Features Writer in March of the same year, and now specializes in features about classic TV shows. With several years' experience writing for and editing TV, film and music publications, his areas of expertise include a wide range of genres, from comedies, animated series, and crime dramas, to Westerns and political thrillers.
A familiar face to Yellowstone fans is about to get a lot more screentime, as one of Taylor Sheridan’s longest-standing acting collaborators finally gets his berth in the main cast of a TV series. The actor in question has been working with Sheridan since season 2 of his flagship Western series.
So far, Kai Caster has played three different roles in Yellowstone and its spinoffs, including one in the cast of Dutton Ranch’s ongoing first season. But his fourth Taylor Sheridan character is going to be a much bigger deal.
Ever since Tulsa King season 3 ended in November 2025, excitement has been building around the launch of its new spinoff Frisco King, starring Samuel L. Jackson. The news that executive producer Sheridan has stepped in to script its first season himself has only upped the ante further. What’s more, he’s given Kai Caster a main part in the series.
Kai Caster Has Appeared In Multiple Taylor Sheridan Westerns
Following his brief appearance as a young Kayce Dutton in one flashback sequence during season 2 of Yellowstone, Caster came to the attention of TV Western fans when he reappeared in the show as a different character. The second time around, his role was far more substantial.
As a recurring member of Yellowstone’s season 5 cast, Kai Caster featured heavily in a storyline spread across five episodes, as the series built towards its climax. The young actor was again performing in flashback sequences, but now as the character Rowdy, a Dutton Ranch cowhand who serves as a love rival for Rip Wheeler during his teenage years.
If things had worked out differently, Caster’s character could very well have ended up with Rip’s partner Beth Dutton. As it is, he’ll have to make due with a smaller role in Yellowstone’s new spinoff about Beth and Rip.
Caster’s Latest Role Is In Sheridan’s Yellowstone Spinoff Dutton Ranch
Besides his cameo in Prime Video’s Spider-Noir alongside Nicolas Cage, Kai Caster’s latest screen performance is in an upcoming episode of Dutton Ranch, where he plays a role that’s as yet unspecified. He may be reprising his turn as Rowdy in another flashback to Beth and Rip’s adolescent romance, but it’s more likely that he’s portraying a new character altogether.
This role will be Caster’s third different part in the same franchise. He’s done especially well to be involved in Dutton Ranch, which features probably the best cast of any Yellowstone series. In addition to Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, the likes of Annette Bening, Ed Harris, Marc Menchaca, and Josh Stewart complete the show’s impressive screen ensemble.
Frisco King Sees Kai Caster Promoted To A Main Role
At long last, after almost 20 years working in TV and film, Kai Caster has his first spot in the main cast of a series. Taylor Sheridan’s Frisco King stars Caster as a valet at the real-life Sandman Hotel in Frisco, Texas, which will become a center for the criminal operations of Samuel L. Jackson’s protagonist, Russell Lee Washington Jr..
Given that Caster is billed as a main cast member and series regular, we can expect him to appear in most episodes of the show’s first season. This season will focus on establishing storylines, as Washington works on setting up his new criminal enterprise in the north of Texas, on the edge of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolis.

As well as Samuel L. Jackson and Kai Caster, Frisco King will star Gen V actor Asa Germann, and Lilah Pate from Prime Video’s teen musical series The Runarounds. Tulsa King lead Sylvester Stallone is also expected to appear in some episodes of the show as a guest star.
Frisco King has already begun production, and is due to premiere on Paramount+ in 2027. It just might be the series that gives Kai Caster the breakout role he’s been waiting for.
