Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has been around for roughly two years now, and it's about to receive some major changes as it reaches its second anniversary. As a way to experience the Pokémon TCG without investing in physical cards, the mobile game offers convenient battling, although it's still possible to spend plenty in pursuit of a great deck.
Pokémon TCG Pocket launched on October 30, 2024, and the latest update promises planned updates to coincide with a new series kicking off in-game at the end of October 2026. Overhauls of mobile games can sometimes sound like a threat, but in this case, the changes look promising.
The official Pokémon TCG Pocket account on X shared a letter addressing future updates, breaking down the plans for the next series into several major categories and thanking fans for their "continued support of the game."
First, there are updates to card collecting, offering players more chances to get some special cards in the new series. Immersive cards can be obtained from opening boosters and completing collections, and ★1 Promo Cards will be available through event missions. A Special Pack called First Partners will focus on "the first partner Pokémon you encounter in each of the nine regions the Pokémonvideo game series has been set in thus far."
Battles will get updates with Community Decks, allowing players to view and copy player-created decks for easier deckbuilding. Rental decks will become more accessible, and limited battle events that only allow specific cards will be added. Lastly, trading and sharing will receive upgrades that make it easier to determine what cards to offer and request in trades.
In addition to these major shifts, Pokémon TCG Pocket promises further development and incorporation of player feedback. Per the comments, dark mode seems like a particularly popular request, as the light backgrounds of the app can cause eye strain for some users.
Committing to an ongoing mobile game often feels like a risk, with many titles abandoning their original formulas or shutting down earlier than expected. In that landscape, it's nice to see that Pokémon TCG Pocket is both going strong and attempting to incorporate changes that the community favors, which is hopefully a sign that its best years are yet to come.
Pera graphic included with the announcement, several of the promised changes will arrive at the start of the new series, while limited battle events,★1 Promo Cards, and new ranked matcheswill take a few more weeks to roll around. It should make for a busy holiday season for fans of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, especially if they're also occupied with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Grand Theft Auto 6 this November.
