Editor's Note: The following contains some spoilers for The Sworn Sword book by George R.R. Martin.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms introduced a wonderful cast in Season 1, not only the lovable leads of the series, Dunk (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), but also an interesting group of side characters, including Baelor (Bertie Carvel), Lyonel (Daniel Ings), Raymun (Shaun Thomas), and many more. However, few of these characters will be involved in the next season. In the finale, Dunk and Egg go off to serve elsewhere, leaving most of the characters behind, including Egg's family. Saying goodbye to them is disappointing, but the upcoming second season will be full of new and interesting faces. With Season 2 set for 2027, HBO is already announcing the major players, including Peter Mullan as Ser Eustace Osgrey, Babou Ceesay as Ser Bennis, and Ludy Boynton as Lady Rohanne Webber.
As Dunk has chosen a life as a hedge knight, despite the offers he received from both Maekar (Sam Spruell) and Lyonel, the next installment doesn't feature any high lords, but that doesn't mean it won't connect to Game of Thrones. Though on the surface, there are no recognizable names, Lady Rohanne Webber will tie the prequel to the original. Many fans haven't heard of House Webber, but everyone knows Lady Rohanne's descendants: Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), and his children, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Cersei (Lena Headey), and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage).
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 2's Lady Rohanne Is Really a Lannister
Image via HBOA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will follow George R. R. Martin's second novella in the series, "The Sworn Sword," which introduces Lady Rohanne as the last surviving child of the former Lord Webber, and therefore the head of the house. She is also known as the Red Widow, as, by the events of the book, she has married four times and outlived each husband, and that isn't all of her husbands. Sometime after the events of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Lady Rohanne marries her sixth and final husband, Gerold Lanniser, with whom she has four sons, one of whom fathers Game of Thrones' master manipulator, Tywin.
Little is known about Lady Rohanne's time as a Lannister, as the only story where she appears (so far) is before this marriage. However, in his companion novel, The World of Ice & Fire, Martin suggests that Gerold and Rohanne loved each other, which cannot be said about all of her husbands. Although many families tie all the series together, most connections are distant and confusing, requiring a thorough family tree to really understand. Meanwhile, this tie is clear, with Lady Rohanne being Tywin's grandmother. Yet, despite their close relation, Tywin never would have met Lady Rohanne, as Martin established that she mysteriously disappeared shortly after her youngest son was born, which was 12 years before Tywin's birth. Even without meeting, Lady Rohanne would have had an influence on Tywin's life thanks to their family connection.

Lady Rohanne Shows How Deeply Connected 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' and 'Game of Thrones' Are
The fact that Lady Rohanne is Tywin's grandmother shows how close A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Game of Thrones are, with only 90 years between the two series. Lady Rohanne may be the clearest connection the series has to the Lannisters of the original series, so far, but the it is just the first, as years later, when Egg becomes King Aegon V, Tywin himself serves as his page and cupbearer (ironically he was sent to King's Landing after he caused and incident by insulting the Freys at his aunt's wedding). This event is all the more interesting because Egg knows Tywin's grandmother from his adventures with Dunk.
While the series is a long way from Egg meeting Tywin himself, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will begin to explore the Lannister family through Lady Rohanne, bringing in another major Game of Thrones family. With the Targaryens, Baratheons, and now Lannisters descending from central characters, the prequel series is slowly introducing the not-so-distant ancestors of all Game of Thrones' main characters.
