Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 4.
Though A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is primarily about Dunk (Peter Claffey), the Targaryen family has rapidly become a central part, with Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), Baelor (Bertie Carvel), and Aerion (Finn Bennett) all playing important roles. Yet Episode 4, "Seven," highlights another prince, Daeron (Henry Ashton). Egg's oldest brother levels his own accusations against Dunk and accompanies Egg to meet Dunk and apologize. Yet, the most interesting thing about Daeron is when he pulls Dunk aside and claims to have seen the future in his dream. Known as Daeron the Drunken, he may not seem like the most reliable source of information, but the prediction he gives Dunk should cause worry because House of the Dragon has proven that this ability is very real.
Though much rarer than dragonriding abilities, several Targaryens have displayed the same power before; in fact, the Targaryens have had this ability even before they had the crown. Daeron's talent places him in a small but important group of Targaryen dreamers, who have issued warnings with varying degrees of success. The history of Targaryen dreamers makes Daeron's lethal warning to Dunk even more ominous.
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Isn't the First Time Targaryen Dreamers Appear
While not every Targaryen has the ability, there is a long and important history of Targaryen dreamers. The first known instance in George R. R. Martin's extensive history of the family is Daenys the Dreamer, who lived several generations before Aegon the Conqueror. She saved her family from the Doom of Valyria when she saw the destruction in her dreams and convinced her father to move to Westeros, avoiding it entirely. Ultimately, without Daenys, none of the events fans have seen would have happened. Yet, she is only the first. In a similar fashion, House of the Dragon suggests Aegon the Conqueror was a dreamer himself, seeing a vision which became the Song of Ice and Fire Prophecy, which inspired him to take control and unite Westeros. This prophecy plays a major role in House of the Dragon, but it doesn't come true until Game of Thrones.
While these two not only saw the future but also successfully interpreted it and changed the course of the future, not all dreamers share that skill. House of the Dragon provides two examples, Viserys (Paddy Considine) and Helaena (Phia Saban). Viserys explains his dream of his son being born while wearing Aegon the Conqueror's crown with the sound of roaring dragons, splintering shields, and ringing swords, believing it means greatness. However, based on the events of House of the Dragon, it was more likely a warning of the war that the series follows.
Then there is Helaena, who makes several comments that come true, though no one seems to acknowledge them. In Season 1, she told her brother, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), that he would need to close an eye to get a dragon, and he did. She also predicted Blood and Cheese's attack, although it was not as direct. She also predicts Aemond's death and Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) becoming king again in the Season 2 finale, though they have yet to come true. Ultimately, the series has made it clear that these predictions are things to watch out for, making Daeron's warning more concerning.

What Did Daeron Predict in 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'?
Image via HBOWith such instances proving that Targaryen dreams are in very real danger of coming true, when Daeron claims to have the ability, fans should be nervous for Dunk. After telling Dunk to stay away from him at the inn in Episode 1, Daeron approaches the hedge knight to explain his dream, saying he saw a huge dragon, dead and fallen on top of Dunk, though the hedge knight survived. Due to the lack of dragons in the current age and the Targaryens' connection to them, Daeron seems to have interpreted his dream as either Dunk killing a Targaryen or a Targaryen dying because of Dunk.
While Daeron doesn't confirm when this will happen, he knows it will, and now that four Targaryens are fighting in the trial of seven, it seems to be an imminent threat. Daeron himself insists that he doesn't want to die this day, which is part of the reason he intends not to give it his all in the trial. Daeron, Maekar (Sam Spruell), and Aerion are all fighting against Dunk, and in the fog of battle, there is no telling what could happen. Meanwhile, Baelor joined Dunk's side at the last minute, risking himself as well. Even if all survive the trial, there is still the fact that Dunk has taken the youngest member of the family, Egg, under his wing, tying him to yet another potential dragon. Whatever happens from here on out, Daeron's dream should not be discounted, especially after House of the Dragon has taught fans to watch out for Targaryen dreamers.
